K,L, and Z for the writing asks!
Hi! :D Missed seeing your icon around <3
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
...God. Okay, so I was talking to @mimsiical about the birb from The Price for Fire, and we agreed that a toddler version of him would be adorable. ...except then I thought through the logistics of a toddler version of Dirk from that fic, especially if the events of his backstory were otherwise unchanged, meaning that all of that would have been done to a child, and. Wow, that’s fucking cold. :(
He would be a very, very traumatized child, and it’s horrible. Give the birb love and affection; he needs it. :(
L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Depends on how well the first draft flows, lol. Some chapters slide right onto the page, and all I need to do is go over them once to clean up the voices and any minor errors I may have made. Other chapters, I force myself a couple of thousand words in only to realize that it’s just not working, and I scrap the whole thing to start over.
Most often, I write the full rough draft, rework/rewrite a few sections that just don’t work, rearrange bits and bobs as needed to fix the flow, and then do a last run through to clean up voices and errors. Even for chapters that require heavy rewriting, I’m usually able to salvage most of the rough draft in some form or another.
Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?
Not usually; it’s really not my type of angst. I like angst with a happy ending; angst that continues to be sad is :(, and I don’t usually do very well with major character death.
That said, major character death that has already happened as part of another character’s backstory is generally fine (a la the alpha strilonde guardians in Homestuck).
