Not enough people talking about how Monty and Crystal are narrative foils to each other
Monty has no past. He is literally a born yesterday character with no character history before he transformed from being Esther's crow into a living human boy. Crystal has a past that she cannot access for majority of the series. She has no memories of her time from before ep1.
The first boy Monty sees after gaining consciousness, he pines after. He does the whole will-they-won't-they dance with Edwin. Crystal is charmed by Charles, the first boy (or one of the first 2 boys) she sees after awakening from her demonic possession. She spends the first few episodes prevaricating in the face of Charles's advances.
The key difference here is that Monty pursues while Crystal evades, because this is Monty's first love, but Crystal is fresh out of a toxic relationship
