Here it is, the finished cosplay out in the wild. The glasses didn't actually have any lenses, that's just my way of making myself less recognisable.

I finished and got pictures of my Night Nurse costume!

I thought that 1890s menswear-inspired styles would suit her outfit really well for adaptations and I think I was right!

I wasn’t going for interpreting a specific one of her outfits, just more the general vibe of what she would have worn in the 1890s (partially because matching fabrics would have been hard, partially because the really warm tones she wears in her blouses wouldn’t suit me as well)

I was really happy to finally be able to use the cameo pin I got a long time ago at a flea market and haven’t gotten the chance to wear because I don’t really wear gold jewelry. I also forgot my rings and earrings when taking these pictures, but rest assured I have some cute and suitable ones

The blouse actually has a mandarin collar, and then the jabot and stock and separate and go on overtop. I made an underskirt with a ruffle out of a red poly taffeta I happened to have an absurd amount of in my stash. In retrospect, I should have flatlined the skirt with it as well, but at least it gives some fluff and prevents the hem from dragging (important because it was muddy when I took these). I don’t love it peeking out the bottom, but I also don’t hate it, and it’s not too out of the era to have the dust ruffle slightly visible

I went back and forth on the hair, and did try out a style that’s a little more accurate where I do the little loops/v-rolls (which I felt were her more iconic look even if she doesn’t wear them for as much screen time) and the pull the rest back, but I ended up with some really good rolls and didn’t want to mess them up, so I left the rest of my hair down and I think it looks pretty good

The bag/folder thing has all of the paperwork I recreated/made (which I talk more about in this post)

All in all, I love this costume, I think it’s one of my favorites (my other fav is also a Victorian interpretation of a character, so I’m sensing a theme here), I can wear the suit with a different blouse and accessories for a normal 1890s event if needed, and it’s not too awkward to wear or move around in (when not on slippery and muddy ground, that is). With the hair and makeup and everything, I think it’s pretty recognizable if you know the character, and I love all the fun little things (especially my folder with the reading light!)

me, trying to figure out how Edwin's vest would fit together (do I know that's it's canonically just his gray coat under his brown coat? yes. Did I buy enough fabric for that and a pair of pants? no) (Also, those are paw prints on the inside. we can pretend that they're cat paws, right?)
