I don’t know if you’re familiar with the basketball player Devin Booker but he’s afrolatino and there’s this audio clip going around of him explaining that when people found out he’s part Mexican, a lot of kids who are of Hispanic descent started to look up to him because they never knew someone like them could be in the NBA.
It was actually very sweet but then the internet had to ruin it by tearing his identity a part. Ya know he’s not black enough and he’s not Latino enough 🙄🙄🙄 so stupid and harmful
Here’s a link to the audio, if you care to listen. It’s like a minute long
Biracial kids are never good enough for any side. What he's saying is important and the thread is all people dunking on him. It's especially harmful to see BLACK people making fun of him.
It's weird to see how black culture has turned into this cannibalistic entity where unless you're perfect and pure in their eyes, you're free game. It happens to mixed race black people, it happens to light skinned black people, it happens to Afro-Latinos, it happens to anyone who doesn't fall into the mold of what they see as IDEALLY BLACK. It's a fucking shame because I consider myself black and the world treats me as a black woman but I know the black community doesn't see me as black and wouldn't welcome me into the fold. That's a truly strange place to be.
