Oasis' long lost album, found: The Death In Vegas Sessions of 'Don't Believe The Truth'
After being essentially lost media for years and years, user aka nandy has re-uploaded the alternate version of DBTT.
Oasis began recording this album in 2004 with Death In Vegas, but ended up scrapping the demos (twice) after Noel wasn't pleased with the results:
(— Noel for the Oasisisnet Webcast, April 22 2005)
In May 2008, five of the tracks recorded from the Death In Vegas sessions (Turn up the Sun, The Meaning Of Soul, Love Like a Bomb, Eyeball Tickler and A Bell Will Ring) were leaked on YouTube, but because of copyright they got deleted and it couldn't be found for years— some pieces survived but in very poor quality.
Yesterday seven songs were found but the demos of 'Eyeball Tickler' (written by Gem) and 'The Meaning of Soul' (written by Liam) have already been blocked by Youtube.*
Still, here are the recovered demos! (and I may have put all the songs into a zip file before copyright does its thing)
Columbia
The famously re-recorded Columbia (back in 2009 there was a leak of this exact demo and a long debate regarding if it was real and who the vocals belonged to lmao) and it's very different compared to the original. New vocals, a bit slower I think, and it's a bit darker and more psychedelic. I'm actually really liking this version tbf
Turn Up the Sun
The one song that Noel said it sounds exactly like an Oasis tune even though he didn't write it, Andy did. This one was available on YouTube, probably because it sounds quite different from the final version and because back in the 2000s it was up on iTunes. It sounds more stripped down and Liam's vocals are a bit more raw
Lord Don't Slow Me Down
Sung by Liam! Liam's demo of this song was actually available but in really poor quality. I'd like to post the entire thing but Tumblr won't let me— still, the full version is in the zip file ^^
Love Like a Bomb
A Bell Will Ring
These last two I wonder if they're from the second batch of demos, produced by Noel, because they're the same set of vocals but the production is slightly different— maybe they're early takes of the Dave Sardy tracks. Either way, nice to have them.
That's all for now! To be fair I expected them to be a mess, given how Noel talked about the sessions and how adamant he was on keeping the demos unreleased (but then again the brothers always say x thing was rubbish and then it turns out it was alright) I'm just excited more people will get to listen to these demos. Such a shame they were vaulted for so long, I'd love to have them in a deluxe edition of DBTT or something.
*EDIT: @dem-scissors thankfully had the missing demos so here they are! (thanks again <3)
Eyeball Tickler
I've always loved this tune but hearing this demo I think it's genuinely better than the original. So much of Liam's vocals got lost on the final version.
The Meaning Of Soul
Finally, the last one, a more stripped down version as well, sounds good
I updated the zip file link as well, so all seven demos are available to download! (Again, thanks to dem-scissors for the missing two demos <3 )
