DeanCas Big Bang Check In because it's late and i'm bored/procrastinating
1. So, is this your first rodeo? If you’re new to writing a DCBB, say hi so I don’t feel alone! If you’ve done it before, how many dcbb fests have you done, and what keeps you coming back?
This is my first time doing one but I've been waiting literally all year to join in! I'm super excited. Like probably way too excited.
2. (But is it really, really your first rodeo?) Have you written a deancas fanfic before? What would you tell me about the best (or most favorite) fic you’ve written? I know. you love them all equally. we tell our cats that too, haha
Um um um I've only written one actual longish fic and it was the story of us and tbh i hate it and frequently think about taking it down because it's really dumb. It's a high school AU and the first destiel fic I ever attempted. I'm really proud that I finished it, which is really the only reason I haven't deleted it. (Plus, whenever I get really close to deleting it, I'll randomly get a super nice comment on it and I think that maybe it's half decent?) I've written a bunch of one shots and unfinished stories that I haven't posted though? I just finished writing another coffee shop au ficlet that will probably never see the light of day, and I have ten thousand words of unfinished performing arts school au that i've never posted. wow i suck
sO YEAH lot's of deancas but not a lot posted and not a lot I really like of mine :(
3. How much preparation do you do before writing? some people outline their stories in detail and write character profiles or make musical playlists for their stories. Others dive right in and figure it out as they go. Which are you? (yes, you can be both!)
I plot out everything in limited detail (if i put too much detail i'll get bored when i actually write it). I don't usually do character sheets, maybe just a quick background for the main ones, but for the one i'm writing now i really sort of HAD to do some world building stuff :(. Generally i just do a simple outline though!
4. Did you sign up for a big bang right away, or did you sign up for a mini-bang to play it safe?
Like i said, i've been waiting all year for this, so i signed up for a big bang straight away, on the first day you could sign up! i do nanowrimo so i figured 20k wouldn't be too hard to muster up.
5. What do you think is your strongest point when it comes to writing fiction?
I think i'm pretty good at writing dialogue that seems natural. A lot of people say they have trouble with that but it comes out so easily for me!
6. What’s your weak point when it comes to writing fiction?
like everything else umm i worry that some of the reactions and things people do aren't realistic, definitely. And I'm not so good at descriptions, they always feel way too brief like no one is seeing what i want them to.
7. What worries you the most about your DCBB story? Remember, no plot summaries, no spoilers, so this could be tricky to answer!
Uhhhhhh Dean's reaction to [basically the plot of the whole story so i really shouldnt say] SOMETHING is what i worry about a lot. It's a really quick scene but it's at the beginning so it could totally influence whether people continue reading or not! Plus I'm not sure if dean and cas's kiss is totally weird and out of place. my beta said both were fine but i sTILL WORRY OKAY
8. Are you a “write every day” writer or a “when inspiration strikes” writer? What do you think it would be like to be the other kind of writer? or are you both/neither?
If i only wrote when inspiration struck i would probably never get anything done. Like I said, I do nanowrimo, which is how i hammer out just about everything i write. If i just wait until i'm inspired i feel like i'd only write 500 words every few weeks and i just couldnt do that. I have to force myself to write, no matter what mood im in. writeordie is a powerful and cruel tool that i have to use if i want anything done.
9. Do you have anything you need to have in order to write?
I used to be convinced that I needed a cup of tea with me at all times but nanowrimo has forced me to write in all conditions. As long as i have privacy and relative quiet I'm all set! Plus once i get in a writing zone (after fighting to get into it for like an hour) i can go forever without wanting food or water or recognizing other basic human needs and once i'm finished it's like coming out of a weird writing coma.
10. Do you need anything in order to get your story finished and ready for the deadline?
Dedication? The ability to not check tumblr every five minutes?
I dunno, i'm attempting to have an all day long, one-person write-in tomorrow until I finish my fic. I think i have about 7k left until the story is totally finished, and i'm way past the 20k point anyway! so hopefully it will be finished tomorrow and i can get the last part to my AWESOME beta whose advice i can't wait to heed to once i go into editing mode. So yeah, i need anti-procrastination FOR JUST ONE DAY, my beta (plus maybe one more just for extra opinions), and willpower to not give up no matter how much i hate everything i write!
