DCI 2023 in a nutshell:

Blue Devils: Jojo's Depressing French Adventure

Blue Knights: both the uniform and show designers are into bondage

Blue Stars: no don't worry it's definitely a show about creativity and not about getting blasted on absinthe

Bluecoats: we've gone so far into psychedelia we're doing shows inside illuminated manuscripts now

Boston Crusaders: SOON MAY THE WELLERMAN COME-

Cadets: a Wheaties advertisement

Carolina Crown: single guard member steals the entire fucking show by dying flamboyantly

The Cavaliers: The Cavaliers

Colts: welcome to Indiana it's time to cry

Crossmen: literally edgy af

Genesis: assimilate to the entire band into the Borg

Mandarins: naughty soloists get put into the spinning hell toaster forever (fun fact: there are no arm or leg clamps. hold on or perish i guess)

Pacific Crest: sun goddess summons a bunch of sirens and teaches them to play trombone

Phantom Regiment: the aliens have arrived and they have OBELISKS

Troopers: the cowboy oil cult returns and this time they're going to capture the sun with the power of harmonica

Academy: onfield soap opera where the two main characters are celestial bodies

just got home from watching the dci finals in theaters!!!! my nemesis (nemesi? Nemesises?) yet again are the camera operators and whoever is deciding to switch to a different camera view CONSTANTLY with no sense of rhythm or how the visuals and musical flow is going. show me THE BIG PICTURE, FROM INTENDED ANGLES, IM RAGING!!!! I know I didn't get the full impact of many of the shows and threw me off a lot, it's upsetting.

fave shows for me were Spirit of Atlanta, Mandarins, and the Boston Crusaders!! ahhh I love dci. might have to save up to go see it in person next year 😅
