How to accomplish your goals.
With new years coming around and people making resolutions I thought this would help. First off. The reason people fail at accomplishing their goals is because the set really crappy ones. 'To be happier',' be healthy', 'feel better'. How does one judge these things? what gets done about it? The key is to first set specific, tangible, and measurable goals. words I heard hundreds of times over the summer. Without that you have no bearing on whether or not you actually meet them. So set goals like ' I will loose X pound', 'or I will be happier by doing X activity,X times a week', just that general idea. The second is to stay on course and set small goals. If you set a goal 'to be a good student' what the hell does that mean? If you say 'To pass X class' then you get better. But how do you do it? Small goals, that are also STM. Such as ' I will study X hours a week',' I will do all HW', 'I will not skip any classes'. So for fitness something such as 'I will exercise X days a week for X long' These are things that you can simply tell if you failed. If you said 'I want to be healthier' and you asked yourself everyday 'am I healthier?' how the hell do you know? Now if you asked yourself 'Did I workout today?',' did I workout X times this week?', 'Did I study X hours', ' Did I skip class?', 'did i do X?', you can then measure your progress, in small specific bits. So e.g. I want to be in shape for DCI.- too vague. How so? Set goals like: I will loose X pounds- but set weekly and daily benchmarks I will run X miles, or run a mile in X minutes- Set smaller weekly, daily, and monthly bench marks I will work out X times a week- Plan out your workouts so you know you completed them/ I will eat X calories- So portion out your daily meals. I will eat X servings of fruits and veggies- plan it. Goals like the last ones listed are the only way you will be able to know if you actually accomplish them, and know how to stay on track with them.
