“Well you made it this far.” She said without any sort of greeting, stepping around the table to being her closer to the blonde that was mid-party, mid-high, mid-death. “I’d say I was disappointed in you but,” she shrugged, as though the DNR decision wasn’t of any consequence in the end. “I’d probably be with you.”
Her fingers trailed along the metal top of the table as each step brought her closer to Bree, though her eyes, surrounded by almost black circles, scanned the party around them calmly. She barely heard the chaos, it meant nothing to her now. She wasn’t invited anymore. Her eyes came back to Bree suddenly though, stopping a few feet away from the girl. “Do you think they’re waiting for us?”
She didn’t have to specify which ‘they’ she meant. Bree would know.

She was grateful for the other girl’s arm around her shoulders; soft affection was rare on the ground and she was awful at asking for it in any case, and she needed someone with her now. A simple arm, a silent guesture to remind Fox that she wasn’t alone, even if she sometimes felt that way. It was easy to forget she had people- she never really had before. Jasper and Monty had always let her trail after them when she got really bored, and then Mbege and Murphy had sort of unofficially friendship adopted her. But Jasper and Monty had risen from kind hearted jokesters to full fledged members of the militia and were seemingly always needed by someone or something. Murphy was gone, banished by the very kids- the very person- he’d thought he could trust, and Mbege was gone in a much more permanent way, one she could never hope to rectify. It was easy to feel alone, and it was why Bree’s simple guesture brought legitimate tears to her eyes.

time was always s l o w when i was with you, when i lied with you, when we slept close together. hearing your v o i c e seeing your smile, feeling the softness of your hair. kissing your nose, crying together, laughing under the sheets. it was always slow, and nonexistent. but time is just a c o n c e p t and so are we.

“Semi-fine.” She amended with a laugh, pouring her bucket of water into the boiling pot to sterilize it after Bree had. “I mean, there’s still poisonous plants and radioactive animals creeping around. And lake monsters.” Luckily the kids had found the creek that allowed them a different area to collect water from, or they might have died of dehydration by now. Rain was fun, but no one had thought to collect it the first night, and it’d only rained once since then. So they’d had little choice but to start bringing it in bucket by bucket from the creek and hope the sea monster didn’t care for shallow water. “But other than that, I’ll give you fine.” She sighed setting the bucket by the side of the campfire beneath the pot; it was full, and they’d have to wait until this batch sterilized before they could add more. “The people though… yeah, we’re all fucked.” She laughed again, sneaking a glance to the gates. “Wanna go dip our feet in the creek until we’re needed again?”

She yanked her arm out of her girlfriend’s grasp, going as far as to tuck it behind her back to hide the gash left by one of those damn posts falling on her earlier.
Dammit Bellamy, she thought, you just had to go rat me out. Couldn’t have just let it bleed under my jacket you ass.
“It’s nothing.” She insisted with a roll of her eyes. “A scratch, that’s it, don’t worry about it.”
