Kara's unfeeling fingers rub together as she shoes tentative steps through a Broken Place. That's what this must be, she's decided, for everything here is. Burning shacks, broken bodies. People are bleeding, unbreathing, unmoving. Dead.
The world goes gray as she confirms from a wide sweep -- not one life sign.
In the solitude of isolation, her eyes water, a bit. It's so sad, to see so much suffering -- suffering she cannot avert or do anything about. But then again, she cannot avert it or do anything about it... so she continues walking.
( The cargo ship transporting her and the others has crashed, here, on this strange planet -- she thought she should look for help. She was sure someone was waiting on the delivery... )
And then there’s heat, heat, heat, coming from 12 o'clock, forward -- optical sensors shift forwards, a hand coming to shield light of the planet's sun so she can process better, and she sees a craft taking off. Escaping? Going to get more help? She cannot determine intention from here, so she follows it, walks slowly... after all, she can't catch it anymore, can she?
It isn't until she's at the mouth of the cave that she realizes the ship left behind more than just broken bodies.
She runs now, of course, because someone is waiting, someone needs assistance, and even if she needs assistance, too, she was programmed and soldered together for one reason, one only! She races, doesn’t think about the attention the bareness of her outfit will draw -- sees a figure on the ground, hand in their hair, tears pushing into ground beneath him.
Syncing... syncing... sync. No results found.
She doesn't know what he is. He isn’t humans -- but he’s crying. He isn’t Cyberlife. He’s hardly moving.
“Someone's here.” It's the most accurate, helpful statement her databases provide her at the moment. She moves forward, quick strides. She's supposed to sync with a new owner, ask preferences -- doesn't have time. She'll just have to use the default for strangers. She kneels down, across from him, reaches a hand halfway between them. “My name is Kara, and I’m here. What can I do?”
