AU where I finally watch Detroit: Become Human and come back to this blog
Hey guys! I haven’t seen or played Detroit: Become Human yet, and I’m not a thousand percent sure when I’ll be able to get around to it. In addition, I haven’t had a huge amount of Kara muse, so if you need to find me, Aella or Willow are your best bet! Definitely not abandoning Kara, but I wanted y’all to be aware of where I was and what’s up! Love y’all!
I’m here, working on my theme, so -- if anyone knows what’s wrong with it, hit me up!!

ltbroccoli:
“Wait, you actually baked these yourself?” Reg couldn’t decide if that made the amount of cookies she constantly gave him even sweeter or even more terrifying. “You’ve said thank you. A lot. It really wasn’t…” He hesitated, considering. It sort of was a big deal, even he knew that. “It’s fine, Kara. Really.”
“Yes!” She lit up, at first, but her face froze in consideration of his assurance that it was fine. “I know. I know it is.” Despite his words that he did not mind, perhaps a part of him... did? “It’s more than fine, Reg. I never thought anyone would... help me -- either of us. Baked goods will never come close to my gratitude.”

“ ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for. “ “ and all that is real is left behind. “ “ the runaways are running the night. “ “ and the sun can’t stop us now. “ “ this is the greatest show. “ “ it’s everything you ever want. “ “ it’s everything you ever need. “ “ this is where you wanna be. “ “ and it’s here right in front of you. “ “ i’m watching it come true, it’s taking over you. “ “ i close my eyes and i can see the world that’s waiting up for me. “ “ and it feels like home. “ “ they can say it all sounds crazy. “ “ we can live in a world that we design. “ “ a million dreams are keeping me awake. “ “ i think of what the world could be. “ “ there’s a house that we can build. “ “ however big, however small, let me be part of it all. “ “ share your dreams with me. “ “ you may be right, you may be wrong. “ “ ‘cause you know you’re just a dead man walking. “ “ go and light your sky, let it burn so bright. “ “ because you’re dreaming with your eyes wide open. “ “ and you know you can’t go back again to the world that you were living in. “ “ but don’t you stay that way. “ “ you can prove there’s more to you. “ “ right here, right now, i put the offer out. “ “ i don’t want to chase you. “ “ so trade the typical for something colorful. “ “ don’t you want to get away from the same old part you’ve gotta play? “ “ it’ll take you to the other side. “ “ suddenly you’re free to fly. “ “ i hate to tell you but it just won’t happen. “ “ i enjoy the life you say i’m trapped in. “ “ but i live among the swells and we don’t pick up peanut shells. “ “ so go and do like you do, i’m good to do like me. “ “ if i were mixed up with you i’d be the talk of the town. “ “ but you would finally live a little, finally laugh a little. “ “ why not just go ahead and ask for nickels on the dime? “ “ all the stars we steal from the night sky will never be enough. “ “ these hands could hold the world but it will never be enough. “ “ i’m not a stranger to the dark. “ “ i’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars. “ “ no one will love you as you are. “ “ for we are glorious. “ “ i am brave, i am bruised, i am who i’m meant to be. “ “ i’m not scared to be seen. “ “ i make no apologies. “ “ i won’t let the shames begin. “ “ look out cause here i come. “ “ i’m marching on to the beat i drum. “ “ this is me. “ “ you know i want you; it’s not a secret i try to hide. “ “ what if we rewrite the stars? “ “ nothing could keep us apart. “ “ no one can say what we get to be. “ “ you think i don’t want to run to you. “ “ you’re going to wake up and see that it’s hopeless after all. “ “ no one can rewrite the stars. “ “ how can you say you’ll be mine? “ “ it’s not up to you, it’s not up to me when everyone tells us what we can be. “ “ all i want is to fly with you. “ “ all i want is to fall with you. “ “ nothing can keep us apart because you were the one i was meant to find. “ “ but i can’t have you. “ “ a man learns who is there for him when the glitter fades and the walls won’t hold. “ “ from now on these eyes won’t be blinded by the lights. “ “ from now on what’s waited for tomorrow starts tonight. “ “ i drank champagne with kings and queens. “ “ for years and years i chased their cheers. “ “ but when i stop and see you there i remember who this was all for. “ “ and we will come back home. “

Three weeks. It had been three weeks since the hostage situation on the rooftop, and while Connor had previously never had a problem storing and locking memories away in databanks only accessed when necessary, the piercing look on that android’s – on Daniel’s – face when he’d fallen remained.
“You lied to me, Connor. You lied to me..”
Connor’s fingers tapped mindlessly against his leg, closing his eyes to stabilise his systems from the frustration that rose. He was a police android, he wasn’t meant to feel anything. He’d done his job; gain the deviant’s trust, rescue the hostage. Even if he could have stopped the snipers, there was no way Daniel would be allowed to continue functioning. Being shot was only one of two options he’d had, and Connor had been there to ensure that happened.
Lifting his head when Hank motioned him to follow, the android stood and left his desk, following his partner obediently. “Got another job for us, more for you, I guess. Another fuckin’ deviant, takes this kid hostage and just runs outta the home. Dad’s not exactly stand up, but he’s a normal guy. Apparently the deviant was busted and repaired, probably shoulda been scrapped.”
Connor’s expression remains detached as he watches Hank, tilting his head slightly. “So there was motive?” Hank shrugs theatrically. “Who fuckin’ cares, it’s a deviant android, which means we get to unleash our local deviant dog on ‘em.”
Two hours later found Connor on the streets; their first stop had been the house in question, and now, he found himself in a crowded marketplace, scanning faces. Kara, was the deviant’s name. And, eerily similar to Daniel, she’d been very close with her now-hostage child.
“We’re going to need money, soon.”
A slight brunette clings to plastic-coated hand with a desperation, a ferocity that hopefully most children do not have to experience -- a ferocity Kara wished Alice had never tasted. Gray eyes slide down to a tentative-faced child. Kara knows Alice well enough to know that the only reason she’d speak up is if she were truly concerned.
“I know.”
“We’ll need more clothes, and food.”
“I’ll figure it out.”
“What if they remotely deactivate you?”
“They cannot do that.”
“Maybe we should find a new spot -- I thought -- last night...” Alice trailed off, uncertain, and Kara’s lips thinned, knees bent in front of small charge. The child was nearly frozen with terror.
“Alice...” Kara’s voice fell low, careful, hands wrapping around the one that had been offered to her long ago. “It’s going to be okay. I’m not going to let anything happen to you anymore. You’re going to be happy. We’re going to live, together, and it’s going to be beautiful!” Conviction, there, in her eyes -- in the quick flash of a smile. “We’re going to keep protecting each other, like we’ve been doing, okay? You’re safe now.”
Alice wrapped a tentative grasp around Kara’s shoulders, and Kara knew she would give anything to make her promise a reality.
She had to.
The streets of Detroit were both exactly what Kara had envisioned and nothing like she imagined -- rain-slick and dirty, boisterous and crowded. No place for a child like Alice. They had found shelter in an abandoned construction site days ago, and Kara was staying there while she worked out a better plan to get accommodation without being scrapped.
After all, with the topic of android deviancy still fresh on everyone’s minds from recent news, she was sure she would have trouble convincing adult humans that she was owned by a child and had totally pure intentions about removing her from her home.
Kara, of course, had since changed -- no uniform, long hair cut and cropped short, and she mostly kept her gaze down, despite the bubbling of excitement in her throat to attempt to reach out and feel, experience this world around her. Her own wish to live life came second, of course. Alice was more important.
She had to protect Alice...
Slowly, carefully, Kara raised from her crouched position -- saw a man handing out fliers. It wasn’t food, or clothing, but an idea still came to her that flicked at the corners of her lips, regardless.
“Stay close to me, Alice.”
They hadn’t been able to take much with them in their escape -- certainly nothing that Alice had held dear. So, as she wove her way through a market place with Alice and fliers wrapped in fingers, Kara researched, counted her steps back to their hideaway.
“Do you know how to do origami?”
“What’s that?”
“The art of paper folding -- making people out of paper.”
“People?”
“People, objects. Dragons, flowers, owls -- dolls.” Kara smiled at Alice’s automatic indecision. “We will not do it if you do not want to -- I thought it may be better than nothing, for now.”
I thought. The words that had once condemned her -- they, and the ones following, now brought a small simper to Alice’s features as she reached out accept one of the papers.
From their spot came murmured instructions -- soft laughs from both -- peaceful and gentle. A sacred moment.

misstheground:
Tentatively, awkwardly, Shoya stepped inside what had once been her room. Strange, how quickly it had stopped feeling like home. How one simple event–
“Nothing has happened.” That was part of the problem. For better or worse, Shoya had grown accustomed to having people around, living with her, speaking with her. Now, spending all her time alone to avoid Thomas… she missed it. Was that normal? She wasn’t accustomed to missing people.
Uncertain how to broach any of this, Shoya finally offered a somewhat stiff, “How are you, Kara?”
Seeing Shoya back in their room offered at least some solace -- reminder of what had been, before what was smoothed in front of her vision, reminded her of the truth. Fingers thumbed together -- tentative, unsure, for a moment.
“I am doing well, everything’s going... well!” Alright, that repetition was a little awkward. Did Kara feel awkward? She was not totally sure.
“How are you?” Upon realizing her second question had never quite been answered, even if she had chosen to rush it into her first, Kara repeated it, unintentionally creating the same potential problem. “Is everything alright?”
I am a lover without a lover. I am lovely and lonely and I belong deeply to myself.
Warsan Shire
“You don’t know what it’s like!” Her voice begins insistent, angry, sure, but then stops, cuts, suddenly unexpectedly, unsure. “-- or... or maybe you do.” Lips thin. She stares downwards. “It... was difficult, I... didn’t know what to do.”

“Ah…s-strawberry, mostly?” It was her favorite, and her employer’s favorite as well. They would both be able to enjoy the sweets together, an idea that brought the smallest smile to her fearful expression. “Sorry…” The apology felt necessary, though Maeve wouldn’t be able to explain why if asked.
“Strawberry?” Kara could pull up files, instantly, on how others experience the taste of strawberries -- on the texture, on the flavor, but she has no concept of the feeling of it between her teeth, and immediately, she wants it. She wants to see the world, taste the world, feel the world! “You don’t have to apologize. Would you like me to help? I love cooking!”
