I’m back…
yassen retirementhoughts haunting me. does anyone have any ideas of what hey think he does… i think he wants an apartment in st. petersburg but commander hill and alex say it’s not secure enough so he does a slightly fancier cabin in thw woods situation outside the city and moves the fer de lance to a port in st. petersburg. i also think that we’ll he definitely doesn’t slack off he realizes that he can actually sleep more than 4 hours a night and still get done what he needs to do. and maybe sometimes he only exercises for 1.5 instead of two hours. i think he probably spends most of his time at home but occasionally visits malagosto to check up on alex and maybe teach some classes. and he takes a couple of contracts with the mafia but only if they’re genuinely challenging and require creativity because he wants to have fun. and he learns more languages and all sorts of skills with his free time but what else does he do….
Rereading that DDBS chapter where Alex gets to celebrate his 16th birthday and:
Alex still had no idea of Yassen's plans, but they stopped for breakfast at a fancy-looking bakery on the way. Birthday privileges apparently extended to that as well, because Yassen made a 'go on' sort of gesture and let Alex have his pick. Five minutes later and some amount of money poorer saw Alex happily chew his way through a chocolate croissant that was probably more butter than flour and with a decent-sized box of additional 'breakfast' by his side.
It's so cute but also I can't help picturing Jack in the background watching Alex look to Yassen for permission before buying pastries despite having his own money going like 😬😬😬
who was going to remind me that dr three is such a minor character in the ar books?? i had to search him up to be reminded that he isn’t actually a main antagonist???
the things reading ddbs does to my brain smh /lh
Today I got back into playing Blue Skies (I took a break after getting Yuri and Natsuki’s good endings) and at this point Sayori’s route has made me feel every possible human emotion

No but do you ever think about how in ddbs, when Alex thought back to his RTI training, it wasn’t just that he basically got lowkey tortured for a week, but it was a torture Yassen actively participated in. It was Yassen holding his head under water at Dr Three’s orders, Yassen who stabbed down on his pressure points and injected him with the drugs. And maybe most of those two weeks are a blur to Alex and Alex knows Yassen did it because he wants Alex to survive, but on some level there has to be that memory of Yassen hurting him. Bruises that Yassen left on him! And yet still his trained obedience holds up and still Alex decides that he will trust Yassen with his life and the thoughts he can’t share with anyone else and afsfsgdgdh it’s so messed up and I love it
Rereading DDBS and this bit from the Miami arc is still so funny to me:
He found the good, inexpensive places to eat, because Alexei had grown used to proper food during Rift's tutelage and if he had the money, he would spend it how he pleased.
Given Alex's tendency to default to junk food when left to his own devices in Devilverse I really do have to picture Yassen sitting him down as they were deciding on Alex's cover and being like 'Alexei would have been taught to eat proper food. No junk food all the time' and Alex going all
