Also, interesting to me how in the show Jack has actually been with Alex for shorter than in the books (6 years vs 7 years) and shorter than Tom, who only met Alex in the books two years ago while he's been Alex's friends in the show for much longer. Idk, I'm really curious what made them change it, also because Alex is a year older at the start of the show (15 vs 14), so she's only been with him since he was 9 in the show.

I'm guessing part of the reason might be that they wanted Jack to be at a turning point in her life, just graduating, and they didn't think they could stretch it to more than 6 years. In the book it's implied she already stayed on after finishing her studies, so I guess it was fine that it was 7 years instead.

If I had a penny for every time : a boy around Alex Rider’s age with multiple physical similarities to him; helped to fake the death of someone Alex is very close to right in front of him; whilst partially working with a terrorist organisation before Alex later chased after him and the boy eventually died.

I would have two pennies, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Everyone in this series is so much stronger than me. If Jack looked at me with those eyes, I would not only tell her all the government secrets, but also my credit card pin-code and AO3 password.

Jack breaks my heart bc the moment she thinks she and alex can be done with this whole mess she gets murdered. Because Alex has to be all alone. She gets killed because she had to because Alex could never have any support from his life before Ian died because Alex has to be alone for his story to be so brutal and to get its point across. She was planning on leaving. And then she’s retconned back to life because Alex needs someone to take care of him without the strings attached that come with San Francisco and the Pleasures and she is back but in a way that she can never leave. She is so trapped in the new continuity. She has to play housekeeper for alex she can never go home. She can never leave. The last time she was planning on leaving she was killed off in some sort of karmic gesture. Alex loses her but she was planning on leaving anyways because this life wasn’t meant to be forever taking care of him like this wasn’t meant to be sustainable. Alex gets her back but it has to be hollow because now she knows she can never leave him

Rereading that DDBS chapter where Alex gets to celebrate his 16th birthday and:

Alex still had no idea of Yassen's plans, but they stopped for breakfast at a fancy-looking bakery on the way. Birthday privileges apparently extended to that as well, because Yassen made a 'go on' sort of gesture and let Alex have his pick. Five minutes later and some amount of money poorer saw Alex happily chew his way through a chocolate croissant that was probably more butter than flour and with a decent-sized box of additional 'breakfast' by his side.

It's so cute but also I can't help picturing Jack in the background watching Alex look to Yassen for permission before buying pastries despite having his own money going like 😬😬😬
