HEADCANON: Childhood
How would she describe her childhood in general? Traumatizing, void of love or compassion. A constant fight for survival, and a source of guilt for Penny. It seems as though all of her time was spent running from the evil of her life.
What is her earliest memory? Snapshot memories of spending time with Rufus, her mentor and somewhat father figure at the orphanage she began her life in. He was the janitor there and always had an interesting story to tell, or song to sing. The two became ginger snap thieves and always snuck and extra cookie for one and other.
How much schooling has she had? The only official schooling Penny has received was primary levels at Morningside Orphanage. During the years she spent kidnapped by Medusa, she received no education, with the exception of being trained to steal and lie. Once she’d escaped to the carnival she picked up knowledge here and there, from Barkin especially. Penny adapted into somewhat of an autodidact, as she loves reading and constantly explores new subjects.
Does she enjoy school? N/A, however, she likes to imagine school as a wonderful place.
Where did she learn most of her skills and other abilities? The circus has taught her most of what she needs to know in the way of life, although she has held on to some tricks of the trade Medusa taught her, and her most poignant childhood lessons involve Rufus.
While growing up, did she have any role models? Rufus and Charles Barkin both served as inspirational father figures, as well as a somewhat protector to the young girl. Her childhood best friend, and the boy she grew up with, Reuben, is her anchor as well.
While growing up, how did she get along with the other members of herr family? N/A
As a child, what did she want to be when she grew up? A pilot, as her envy for birds and their freedom always scratched at her mind.
As a child, what were herr favorite activities? Playing with her Teddy, playing pretend, climbing trees, and exploring, coloring, and reading stories.
As a child, what kinds of personality traits did she display? Stubbornness, adventurous, isolated, imaginative, hopeful, brave, innocent.
As a child, was she popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like? Pre-Circus Penny’s only friends were her teddy bear, mice, and the janitor Rufus at her orphanage. Post-Circus Penny had Reuben, as well as more mice.
When and with whom was her first kiss? Penny’s first kiss was in the Australian outback when she was a very young girl, with a boy named Cody. He had a large fascination for birds as well, especially or the large exotic kind. He was an adventurer who was a friend as well as innocent first love who came and went quickly in her life.
