We were built to fall apart (1x01 DE revamp)
She needed some air, a couple minutes to just get away from everything and everyone. So far she had been handling herself well but she isn’t perfect. Her facade, it’s something she could only keep up for so long. Only so many times she could assure everyone she’s fine before they stopped believing her. If she were being completely honest with herself; coming out here had been a terrible idea. Sure she was determined to get back to normal and goes to parties, especially bonfires was normal. But a party like this one, was where she had been at the night she lost both of her parents.Thinking about that night sort of put her plans on acting like everything was normal again.
“Caroline!” Elena as just about to keep on going until she noticed one of her friends. Grabbing her arm, as if part of her was expecting the blonde to keep on walking. “Elena, is everything okay..?” Crap. Did she not look ok. This is exactly why she needed to step away for a couple minutes. “Oh, yeah. I’m fine.” She was quick to assure her, fake smile and all. “I just wanted to go for a walk. I need some air. If you see Stefan could you tell him I’ll be back soon?” If anyone would be more than happy to distract the new guy in town in was the girl standing beside her. “Uh sure, I’ll let him know if I see him.” But they both knew as soon as Elena walked away she’d be looking for him. Right now, that’s fine with her. She didn’t want him or anyone else following her.
Turning around heading in the direction that she had planned to before the temporary stop. Her arms crossed in front of herself, she walked in silence. The further away from everyone the better. She knew these woods like the back of her hand, being out here alone even at night didn't bother her. The further she walked, the quieter it became. The sound of voices began to fade out, shortly by the music playing in the background. Until all that was left was the sound of leaves crunching under her sneakers. Far enough away, Elena pulled her phone from out of her pocket, a force of habit. But as she found heself about to dial the number she always did when something was bothering her. She quickly realized that there was no one for her to call. Her Mom, just as much her friend as she was her parent. The one person she could call no matter what the problem. Cruel irony at it's worst, the one person she wanted to talk to now, it was the one person she couldn't. Words couldn't even begin to describe how much Elena misses her, her and her Dad.
She had stopped walking by this point, standing at a point where the forest had started to clear. The road was in sight, only a couple feet away. Did she even want to be here anymore? Not like she had much of an option. Aunt Jenna would come get her. But did she really want to do that to her? They both knew what had happened the last time she wanted to leave a party early... Holding back a sigh, staring at her phone screen. Debating if she should or not. A twig snapped, causing Elena's head to jerk up, heart skipping a beat. She wasn't scared, it's just that she hadn't exactly expected anyone else to be out here. For all she knew she was just letting her imagination get the best of her. "Hello...?" She called out. Head turning from one side and then to the other. "Stefan..?" Maybe he had come looking for her after all? Or she was just crazy and talking to an animal that just happened to pass by.
