Since Three Houses’ Officers Academy of Garreg Mach Monastery owes its origins to the academy that Sigurd, Quan, and Eldigan attended in their youth, I wanted to ask, are there any well known royal or noble academies in Quirinus? If so, have any of the royals attended and studied at any of these academies?
From what I've written before, there would be at least four institutions that would fit that description. Most of the royals and higher-ranked nobles receive private instruction, but they still draw from the same pool of instructors and experts who work at these institutions.
The biggest one is a knight academy located in Westerstede, meant to double as a school for nobles and future military officers, so there's a wide range of subjects taught at this academy. Retired officers often hang up their swords to teach at this academy. It used to be exclusive to aristocrats, but at some point, a Nohrian queen decreed that the academy be opened for non-aristocrats, although there's still a high price of admission. A majority of the royal family have studied here at some point, with the exception of Anri, Diantha, Elise, and Liselotte.
Morbank is the center of magical and alchemical studies, boasting a handful of different schools in magic that are separated by their teaching methods and areas of focus. The biggest one hosts the largest archive of old texts and the best laboratory. They share close ties with Westerstede's knight academy, often loaning out their own professors on an exchange program. Diantha, Leo, Elise, and Jeremiah have studied here for a time, with Jeremiah and Diantha having worked there as researchers.
Vandale doesn't have as defined of a school for wyvern riders the way that Westerstede's academy does, but they have a very well organized network of wyvern tamers dedicated to passing down the tradition of studying wyverns and air combat training. Unlike the knight company in Westerstede, they have never had class restrictions. Camilla and her cousin Cornelia have studied here.
The independent knight companies in Fallmount and Janholt also behave the same way, only that they aren't nearly as closely connected to the local noble families. Although they are by definition just gangs of mercenaries, many combat tournament winners have hailed from knight companies. None of the royals have joined a knight company but have recruited retainers with such backgrounds.
Where would The Royals be placed on the “When a bag is stuck in the Vending Machine” meme?
Tries to get the snack by sticking their arm in the slot: Diantha, Thomas, Elise Shakes the vending machine: Azura, Liselotte, Ryouma Punches/kicks the glass: Roswitha, Mila, Hinoka, Marius Asks someone for help: Xander, Sakura All of the above in that order: Damian, Jeremiah, Takumi, Anri/Arisa
Did all of the royal children get official portraits of themselves? Or was it just the older-ish ones? What ages were they when they got them done?
They all have official portraits, but not all of them get put up for display because there’s only so much space in the castle and so many generations of kids, rulers, and consorts. When a new king or queen assumes the throne, they also decide on which portraits get put up or stored away in some royal gallery or vault that isn’t accessible to the public like the gardens.
Usually their first portrait sitting happens around the time they hit their 7th or so birthday so Mila doesn’t have an official solo portrait because they didn’t reach that age. They get another one when they are around 13, 14 years old. Any portraits after that are just extra or has to do with their position, like if they’re confirmed crown prince or princess.
Some consorts like to have their portraits done with their children present so you’ll find some portraits of the consorts with their children, but children aren’t required to sit for their parents’ portraits. So in Mila’s case, they were pictured with their mother Danica one time as a baby, and it is the only official, visual record of them.
What would have each of the royals forged Siegfried into had they wielded it?
All the siblings who can use or prefer using magic (Dia, Liselotte, Jerry, Leo, Elise, Azura) would have turned Siegfried into a staff, save for Camilla, who would have liked an axe. The rest would have just liked a sword because they're not that picky. What would be different is who wants their sword lavishly decorated (Mars, Damian, Mila, Leo, Anri) and who don’t care so long as it gets the job done (Xander, Rose, Thomas).
Folllow up to the Heroes question, if I may. I meant to include the question of how the dead royals would react to each other upon being summoned to Askr?
They’d probably think they’re in some sort of afterlife because trying to explain the whole mechanics behind summoning would be difficult.
What changes to history would need to be made in order for the infighting to have never happened? Asking cause of an idea of a variant of the Everybody Lives AU where “Everybody” includes all the consorts, too. So the Nohrian army ends up having this royal platoon that’s composed of one man, all of his wives, and all of his children with said wives. Plus all those retainers.
The conditions for an Everybody Lives AU? I guess the sheer luck of people avoiding the urge to make so many selfish decisions, and Anankos never deciding to have his revenge on mankind like he promised.
I know I asked this question of Hoshido what seems like forever ago, but what is the Nohrian royal family doing this New Year?
They’re probably keeping things quiet and just spending quality time with friends and family. With the exception of probably Mila and Elise, most of them aren’t really into things like throwing huge parties and prefer private events that aren’t nearly as overwhelming. In their younger years, most of them would spend the holidays with family from their mothers’ side, although later on, they’ve chosen not to travel so far and stay back in Windmire.
Azura’s first few years in Windmire were pretty lonely or just with her mother. She tended to like these weeks because almost all her bullies weren’t around to hurt her and her mother, so she often took this chance to roam about the castle wherever she pleased. Later on Damian and sometimes Camilla would cut their trips short just to keep her company.
Anri couldn’t leave the castle, so his closest companions were Leo and Elise during these weeks when the older siblings were too busy or not even present. Because of his restrictions, Leo and Elise got really creative with things to do in the castle. Their probably most successful idea was, in fact, was helping the staff at the city’s public kitchens.
These establishments were created by a Nohrian queen a century ago as a means to support her people during an especially bad harvest season. The idea was so popular that it’s become a normal fixture in every major Nohrian city and is open to anyone who needs food. Anri, Leo, and Elise eventually roped the entire family into doing this and now it’s a royal tradition to do this.
