It'll probably be a while longer before I can post any completed works, but for now have an out-of-context snippet from the sci-fi/fantasy au I've been slowly chipping away at for the past year:

Writing update: I've reached the stage of procrastination where I'm making playlists for short stories I've already finished instead of working on my actual wips
can you share something about gothic AU? 👀
WIP ask game
Thanks so much for the ask!! I’ll start off with explaining what Dead Storage is, since I’m not sure I’ve really explained it on tumblr before:
Essentially, it’s a collection of fake fanfiction for a fake show. “Dead Storage” is the name of a fanfiction archive for Marlowe House (2017), a supernatural network drama in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. Some stories are alternate universes, some are canon compliant, some are canon divergent, but they’re all framed as fanfic for that fake show. (There’s also a wider over-arching storyline that unfolds across all of the fanfics, but I won’t get into that here because spoilers.)
So, the Gothic AU is set in 1898. When wealthy recluse Ismene Marlowe dies, the entirety of her estate, including her family’s opulent mansion, Marlowe House, is passed to her nearest living relative, a distant cousin named Lawson DeWitt, who hires Ariadne Underwood to act as caretaker, managing the house and the remaining staff until he’s ready to move in. As Ariadne gets settled in Marlowe House and gets to know the staff, she finds herself at the center of a series of increasingly sinister hauntings, and she has to unravel the secrets of the Marlowe family and the ghosts that haunt it, all while she begins to suspect that her hiring may not have been as coincidental as it seemed.
An excerpt:
Marlowe House loomed, dark and cold, on a high ridge overlooking the river. From Ariadne’s angle, sat in the back of the well-trimmed carriage Mr. DeWitt had graciously sent for her, she had to crane her neck to fit the whole of it in her vision. Perhaps that was what made the structure seem so very off-kilter. It felt too tall, too crooked, too unbalanced, as though at any moment it might simply topple over and fall into the frigid grey waters of the Allegheny. Its many windows were dark and deep-set, and the thin rime of morning frost that had settled over them gave the look of filmy, cataritic eyes. The overall impression was unsettlingly human – it was not something but someone standing at the top of the ridge, someone old and bent and cruel. If Ariadne were superstitious, she would have felt utterly certain that Marlowe House was watching her, and it did not like what it saw.
As it was, her heart quailed at the sight, and her stomach gave a nauseous lurch of dread, but she ignored them both, because ghosts weren’t real, and neither were bad omens, but unemployment was.
EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot to mention that I commissioned this STUNNING piece from @hotdrinks showing Ariadne having her no-good-very-bad ghost experience:
[ID: A black and white sketch of Ariadne, a biracial bengali/white woman wearing a frilly evening gown and holding a candelabra with three branches. The background is dark, the candles being the only source of light. Ariadne looks over her shoulder anxiously. End ID]

for every "🌹" received in my inbox i'll post one random sentence of a random WIP i'm currently writing
Have a snippet from the t4t High School Reunion AU I'm working on:
Ariadne is glad she chose the name she did. Daphne wouldn’t sound the same, whispered like this, and neither would Jessica. Claire makes music out of Ariadne, tongue pressing delicately against the back of her teeth like a musician’s against a reed as she rounds out the unfamiliar dn sound.
If anyone’s curious, the central question of Dead Storage is “what if the ship of Theseus was a person?”
