Yeah it’s really shit and local/regional governments everywhere don’t wanna pay for infrastructure to change it so 🫠 also it’s often a codified thing in local laws re: what can and can’t be constructed in certain ways in certain parts of cities and it’s just a fuckin mess

This is a good YouTube channel that explains it tbh—what he talks about is applicable to most places in the US tho he used Houston as an example
