“ i thought national city was hectic, but, geez oliver, you sure do have your hands full here ! ----- no offense ! ”
Her shift was over, long gone, by now - exhaustion on weighted limbs, bags settling beneath her eyes. Who slept in Starling City? Not Toni Topaz, who only ever seemed to crawl from her posting at the hospital, where her residence had only just begun, to the tiny apartment that she’d managed to secure for herself in the less than savoury part of town. But how was this any different than the Southside? Finding herself more at home with the trash then the shiny buildings that soared about this city, meant to serve as some paragon of virtue and change to the world. But broadcasting its own insanity with the unnatural crimes that seemed to plague the streets, the fronts of tabloid newspapers. Cigarette hanging loosely, lazily, between her lips, letting it ash within the wind as she walked. A neat clip of her shoes against the pavement, headphones in, but only on one side. Even she knew better than to walk around with senses robbed, having learned enough from being poor and having nothing within a town more strictly segregated than this one, that having a watchful eye out could mean the difference between life and a severe beating. Having learned to set broken bones before she’d learned calculus, frown creasing her features more than she’d like to admit. Head tilting back to examining her building, everything escaping in a plumb of smoke as she wrestled with her keys within her pockets, impossibly deep and sadly struck within the trademark leather than she’d grown up wearing. Her building a looming scar across the landscape, tired legs climbing up the staircase, elevator out of order. “For fuck’s sake...” the last thing she needed today, just wanting to lose herself against her bed, to let sleep take her hostage, to sink. Door opening with a swing, a figure crowded, within her room, but able to see within the locked up form of his eyes that it was... the Green Arrow. The breath that she’d been holding drawing out in a hiss, walking through the door to drop her keys at the front, taking her time with the jacket. ”You’re here earlier than expected.” Toni’s voice a careful draw, bag tossed upon the back of a chair. “As in, what, weren’t you here a week ago? Shit. you used to be able to take a month off in between you... and these kinds of visits.” drawing to a stop, in front of him, a hand reaching out to steady at his shoulder, touch kept lighter than expected. “What’s happened? Knife fight? Bullet?” @deadlyarrws
