Starting in Deadpool (1997) issue #37, Loki sorta-kinda kidnaps Wade Wilson and his lady love, Death. And then tells him he’s Wade’s father...
...teaches him how to break the fourth wall...
...sends him to steal Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, which works because anyone can become Thor, apparently...
...and when Loki’s scheme inevitably backfires, Wade attacks him. He curses Wade to have his life fall into ruin...by making him look like Thom Cruz (aka “Tom Cruise”). Which does make Wade’s life a living hell because he can’t do anything without a horde of Thom Cruz fans blocking him.
The moral of the story is don’t believe a damn thing Loki tells you (even if he gives you a cool hat) and that the 90s were a weird time, kids.
