        affection of any kind is foreign territory for annette, even small things such as kind words or simple gift giving. she has no problem offering the kindness & the small gifts, but the moment it’s pointed toward her rather than from her is the moment the medium becomes entirely lost. so when presented with a small & simple christmas present, all the little brunette can do is stammer & insist that cooper really didn’t have to, it was too much trouble, & that of course she appreciates it, etc. etc. & to top it off, he kisses her forehead. “o-oh -- um. m -- merry ... merry ch-christmas.”
