deaf!Eddie headcannons

This is a few headcannons for @beep-beep-richie-trashmouth
I, myself, am not hearing impaired but I used to have a friend who was deaf so I’m basing everything off of them. Sorry if it’s not very good or what you wanted.
-Okay so Eddie wasn’t born deaf but as he got older, his hearing got worse and worse until it was pretty much gone by the time he was ten
-The losers all learn sign language even tho Eddie knows how to read lips bc they want to make things easier for him
-Whenever Richie is talking really fast or whenever he goes on a long ramble about something, it’s harder for Eddie to keep up so someone (usually Stan or Bill) will translate from Richie’s side
-When Richie figures this out, he starts to slow things down and articulates more
-All the losers notice how much effort Richie puts in to stop himself from going to fast for Eddie and they never say anything but they all find it adorable
-Eddie hates it when people make a big deal out of him being deaf bc his mom already does it all the time by making him wear hearing aids that don’t work and by taking him to the doctors to try and fix him
-Whenever the whole thing with Pennywise happened, It would make fun of Eddie for his hearing bc it’s a huge insecurity for him
-But he loves to shit talk people with Richie using ASL and he also likes to speak clearly and effortlessly to people who talk about him bc they think he can’t understand them
-Ben gets a book on ASL and Richie will purposely take ten minutes flipping through a book so he can sign something about Eddie’s mom
-Ben and Mike also learn a lot about historic deaf people and they always comment that Beethoven was deaf and did a lot of awesome shit whenever Eddie feels bad about being deaf
-Bill uses sign language the most bc his stutter confuses Eddie sometimes and they realized it’d just be easier for Bill to sign all the time
-it’s gotten to the point where Bill will absentmindedly sign as he talks on a day to day basis
-This is how Bill accidentally spoiled what the losers were going to do for Eddie’s birthday one time
-Stan usually uses ASL after he says something, kind of like an afterthought bc Stan realizes that he doesn’t really show much emotion on his face or articulate very well
-And he felt bad when Eddie pointed it out but he isn’t good enough at ASL to sign as he talks like Bill can so he does it afterwards so he can get it (mostly) right
-Beverly is such a badass and will fight anyone who tries to make fun of Eddie for his hearing
-The other losers just watch in awe as this fierce redhead just demolishes some random kid in the hall who snickered as Eddie walked by
-Mike definitely came up with the idea for them all to learn sign language and he practiced the hardest in learning it pretty much flawlessly
-They all started using it so much that sign language became their secret language that they would use whenever they were around people and needed to talk about something top secret tm
-Eddie really loves his friends
-And the losers really love Eddie
