HAPPY 32RD BIRTHDAY, NYLE DiMARCO!!!
Sometimes people ask stupid questions when they don’t fully understand something. But here is my new post about the most cringe-worthy questions people who are deaf get asked is proving how surprisingly tone-deaf people can be (pun not intended).
Do not assume that we, deaf people who aren’t physically capable of doing regular things.
People who are hearing often think that having the ability to hear automatically means you have a “perfect” life. But seriously, they’ve never experienced our life or our world.
—Shocking Questions People Who Are Deaf Get Asked All The Time
“Can deaf people drive?”
“Do deaf people use Braille?”
Like, “Are you really deaf?”
“Do you need a Wheelchair?”
“How can you be a parent if you can’t hear your baby cry?”
“Is sign language a universal language?”
“Do deaf people actually have sex?”
“Can you date hearing people like me?”
“So if we hook up and does it means am I going deaf?”

Nyle DiMarco
Deaf Awareness:
Through the years, I’ve seen t.v., internet, and snail mail advertisements for audiologist and hearing doctor services telling me I can receive help for my hearing loss and/or deafness, and just as they get my hopes up, right at the end of it, they show a PHONE NUMBER and instruct me, the viewer, the deaf/hoh person to CALL for an appointment.
If I could call (which typically depends on the sense of sound to complete, which obviously I’m lacking since I need your services) for an appointment, I wouldn’t need the appointment.

Redefining Everything
Nyle DiMarco is a Deaf, 27 year old model, actor, and Deaf activist that continues to redefine what the world thinks. Nyle won America’s Next Top Model in 2015, becoming the second male winner and first deaf winner. After America’s Next Top Model, Nyle stared in Dancing with the Stars the following year, and became the first deaf winner.
I didn’t watch Nyle on America’s Next Top Model, but I did follow Nyle each week on Dancing with the Stars. I would love to share every dance he did with you guys (because he’s seriously amazing), but I’ll limit it to my top two favorites.
If you're not following deaf activist Ronnie McKenzie on social media, you should be.
