just got back from Deaf Day at the zoo and it was AMAZING i can't even explain there were SO MANY Deaf people and families all over the zoo today I learned so many new animal+zoo related signs and it was incredible! and my spouse and I almost exclusively signed all day long and it's been forever since we've done that, and our son got to sign to so many people and tell them his sign name and answer a few small questions in sign, so many people were so impressed that a CODA toddler who is learning ASL as a second language is able to sign so well and understand even more.

yall it was just so wonderful. i could cry. my heart was SO full i'm just.... ugh it was so good to see so many signers all around me. usually the three of us are the only people we see signing and it was so amazing to see so many regional signs and little accents and stuff, it was so cool. genuinely the best zoo trip ever.

Y’all the Ft. Worth zoo has Deaf Day and it’s TOMORROW and MY SPOUSE GOT US TICKETS!!!

Me and my spouse and our son are going to the zoo tomorrow and all the zoo keeper chats are gonna be INTERPRETED there will be INTERPRETERS SIGNING and they will be stationed all over the zoo to SIGN WITH PEOPLE I’m so excited!!!!!

Tumblr I Need You.

Tumblr in times of need you have come through for so many and right now I need you to help my schools American Sign Language program get the recongnition we deserve. As some of you you may know about the Day of Silence which supports LGBT people by not speaking the whole day. My school fully supports and urges students to take part in this day; however, when the ASL students ask for a Deaf Day where we go through a whole day with plugs in our ears so we can experience school life through Deaf eyes we have been denied. This is a blatant misunderstanding about how helpful and inspiring a Deaf Day can be for students learning about Deaf culture. We (the ASL students) have been wanting a Deaf Day for years and support from people outside of the program is needed if this is to progress. The excuse that students should not have Deaf Day because of their lack of participation in class is ludicrous due to the Day of Silence is essentially the same principles without the earplugs and a different meaning. Any reblogs or likes will help spread word and help my school understand that not only do students want this experience but others can see its worth. Please help make the Deaf Day a reality.
