With Hard Working Class Heroes 2014 just one week away (Thursday, October 2nd to Saturday, October 4th), the Last Mixed takes a look at the vast array of artists performing at this year’s festival and comes up with the 20 must see acts in oder of appearance.
Voids – Workman’s Club: Thursday, October 2nd (8pm)
Galway duo Voids will bring their distinct atmospheric electro sound to this year’s HWCH, the pair’s unique sound will be the perfect beginning to the eclectic festival.
The Statics – Mercantile: Thursday, October 2nd (8.40pm)
Indie-rock four-piece the Statics continue their current momentum with an appearance on the Mercantile stage at Hard Working Class Heroes 2014. The band’s debut E.P. Hidden Pigeon is vibrant affirmation of their sound.
The Late David Turpin – Workman’s Club: Thursday, October 2nd (9.20pm)
An enigmatic performer, the Late David Turpin always provides an engaging and exciting live show in any context.
God Knows + MynameisjOhn – Button Factory: Thursday, October 2nd (10pm)
Following their explosive live performance as part of the live in Unit-1 series with Murli the prospect of an equally powerful set from the duo God Knows & MynameisjOhn is a promising one indeed.
Fallen Rule – Mercantile: Thursday, October 2nd (10pm)
Hot on the heels of their headline show in the Grand Social earlier this month Dublin rock influenced act Fallen Rule will take to stage at the Mercantile as part of HWCH 2014.
Liza Flume – Meeting House Square: Thursday, October 2nd (10.15pm)
An artist who has been consistently crafting and perfecting her sound, Liza Flume will perform at the HWCH outdoor stage in Meeting House Square on Thursday night. Flume will release her new single ‘Sleepless Nights’ later this month.
Carriages – Workman’s Club: Thursday, October 2nd (10.40pm)
A duo who have already had a landmark year with the release of their double A-side single ‘Roots/Significant Landscapes’ and it’s supporting Irish tour, Carriages will perform at the Workman’s Club during HWCH 2014.
Death In The Sickroom – Mercantile: Friday, October 3rd (8.40pm)
Indie-pop act Death In The Sickroom made a impactful debut with their recent E.P. Brick to the Face, the band will continue to build on this with a set at the Mercantile on October 3rd.
The Hard Ground – Grand Social: Friday, October 3rd (8.50pm)
No strangers to the Last Mixed Tape, the Hard Ground will bring their current Irish tour to Hard Working Class Heroes as the group support their current E.P. Triptych: 2.
Somerville – Button Factory: Friday, October 3rd (9.20pm)
A performer with an engrossing musical style and stage presence, Somerville’s slow-burning ambience soaked sound is singular in its tone and the artist’s forthcoming appearance at the Button Factory will be a must see.

Buffalo Sunn – Grand Social: Friday, October 3rd (9.30pm)
Fresh from their simply breath-taking performance at the Sugar Club last week, indie-rock outfit Buffalo Sunn will bring their full-bodied sound to the Grand Social for the Hard Working Class Heroes festival. The band’s album By The Ocean By The Sea.
I Have A Tribe – Button Factory: Friday, October 3rd (10pm)
One of the country’s most evocative songwriter’s, I Have A Tribe made a captivating debut with his E.P. Yellow Raincoats this year. An artist I caught at last year’s HWCH in the same venue this performance will be a must for all festival goers.
Elastic Sleep – Mercantile: Friday, October 3rd (10.40pm)
An act that first came to my attention with a festival stealing performance at HWCH 2013, Elastic Sleep return to the event this year following a stand-out year that included the release of their brilliant E.P. Leave You.
Little Xs For Eyes – Grand Social: Friday, October 3rd (10.50pm)
Little Xs For Eyes made their return with the future indie-pop gem ‘Love Gets Lost’ this month, fresh off the back of the single’s release the six-piece will play the Grand Social on the Friday of HWCH 2014.
Dott – Bad Bob’s: Friday, October 3rd (11.20pm)
Galway garage-pop band Dott return to Dublin for Hard Working Class Heroes with a show in Bad Bob’s on Friday night. The group’s recent album Swoon was a superb affirmation of the group’s ability to meld the garage and indie-pop genres, featuring the tracks ‘Small Pony” and ‘Rain Day”.
Red Queen Contest – Bad Bob’s: Saturday, October 4th (8pm)
Alternative-rock four-piece Red Queen Contest take part in this year’s Hard Working Class Heroes festival with a set in Bad Bob’s. The band’s self-titled debut has spawned several stand-out tracks including ‘Eiderdown’ & ‘One and the Same’.
Deaf Joe – Button Factory: Saturday, October 4th (8.40pm)
An immensely individualistic solo artist Deaf Joe’s sophomore L.P. From the Heights of a Dream was a highlight of 2014. Mood driven and atmospheric, the musician’s sound and approach brings an added stylistic dimension to the HWCH festival.
Elaine Mai – Meeting House Square: Saturday, October 4th (9.40pm)
Electro producer Elaine Mai is a musician on the ascendancy of late. Working in a myriad of genres and mediums Mai’s remixes, recent E.P. EDC and live performances have singled the artist out as bright prospect for the future.
Cloud Castle Lake – Button Factory: Saturday, October 4th (10pm)
Making a palpable impact with their debut record Dandelion Dublin alternative-music trio Cloud Castle Lake are one of the Irish music scene’s most exciting new acts. Their appearance at HWCH this year will be sure to be a singular experience.
Fight Like Apes – Meeting House Square: Saturday, October 4th (11.10pm)
Electro-pop act Fight Like Apes will headline the Meeting House Square stage on the final day of Hard Working Class Heroes 2014. Following the group’s vibrant return E.P. Whigfield Sextape was a welcome comeback from the band and featured one of the year’s most memorable tracks ‘Crouching Bees’.
