Seeking Deaf People to Interview for My Research on Deaf Representation in Animation!

Hello to everyone here,

I am looking for people who are deaf or have hearing disabilities to interview for my Master's research. You can be from any background or any country, as long as you can communicate in English and/or Malay.

The objective of this research is I want to know the direct perception from people in the deaf community themselves on their opinion on this issue. The interview, if it's face to face (whether video call or physically) should only be about 30 minutes. Otherwise I am open to doing written interviews through emails if you feel more comfortable with it.

I have yet to get any response yet from this form so I am now expanding my search outside of Malaysia as well. Please help to circulate this and share and reblog this, or if you are the person I am looking for and interested to participate, please fill in this form and I will contact you soon.

Until the mid-1960s researchers and others (mostly hearing persons) stated that DHH [deaf and hard-of-hearing] learners’ intellectual capacity was “inferior” or limited to “concrete” thought. Finally a psychologist pointed out that the problem was not with these learners—instead it was the tests being used. A researcher then reviewed many studies and concluded that DHH learners had the same range of thinking potential as hearing students—with the key word being “potential.” How could they achieve that potential?

There is no shortage of assumptions made about the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) students; however, there is a shortage of high-quality research that provides relevant information to parents and educators about the educational placements, teaching methods, and supports that improve DHH students' learning and academic achievement. Determining what works for this population requires credible research on their characteristics, needs, and experiences, not assumptions and philosophical biases. Those interested in improving DHH students' academic outcomes need to know how to evaluate research findings to assess quality and relevance to specific individuals or groups.
