Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
The biggest challenge of any cinematographer is making the imagery fit together of a piece: that the whole film has a unity to it, and actually, that a shot doesn't stand out.
- Sir Roger Deakins
Oftentimes, cinematographers are the unsung heroes of their films. They work diligently and artfully to craft the light, framing, and atmosphere of a film’s shots, all the while ensuring that it’s in support of story and character. But one cinematographer’s name in particular is on the level of filmmakers like Martin Scorsese or David Fincher, and that’s Roger Deakins. Actors flat-out admit they sign on to films just to work with Deakins, and he’s one of the most in-demand cinematographers working today. Tim Robbins signed onto The Shawshank Redemption because of Deakins.
Deakins is a master cinematographer not just because the films he shoots are gorgeous (they are), but because the way in which he approaches a film is unique and, at times, unconventional. He uses light in an incredibly distinct way, and yet the feel of a Roger Deakins-shot film never detracts from the story at hand. Moreover, if the story is, say, subpar, Deakins’ work automatically elevates the material at hand.
For some insane reason Deakins won his first Oscar for 2018's Blade Runner 2049, and then a second for his astounding World War I film 1917. This is after being nominated over 13 times for past classics movies. In 2008, Deakins received dual Oscar nominations - his sixth and seventh - for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) and No Country for Old Men (2007). He is now well known for his close collaborations with the Coen Brothers - starting with Barton Fink (1991) - and Sam Mendes on Revolutionary Road (2008), Skyfall (2012), 1917 (2019), and Empire of Light (2022), and Denis Villneneuve on Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

im sorry if this comes across as rude i promise it's not my intention, but what happened with dan deakin and the family?
I haven’t followed closely. I think Dan has a girlfriend, and Doris and Ernie live with them. I have read that Daisy and Phoebe split their time between their father Mark Tomlinson and their maternal grandparents, and apparently their separation from Dan was not on good terms. However, all the children do get time to see each other.
Hey I love your stories about Kay and cam could you please do one where derikins tells Kay that Cameron never gave MM the Diamond and Cameron telling her it’s ok? Also Kay and Cameron ❤️
Sorry for the late answer. I received some negative comments from the fanfiction net and it discouraged me a bit. Anyway, I hope you don’t given up on me and my messy English. Here’s the story as you asked.
Characters: Kay Daniels, Deakind and Cameron
_
I’d been a little harsh all day with Cameron. I didn’t know exactly why, but living with him for another day made me afraid of losing him and so I was angry because he took the risk.
There was also the fact that he had helped the MW who had made me suspicious, but at the same time, I realized that something was not right. Deakins was primarily responsible for our case and she wasn’t upset with him. Had I lost something?
I know that Cameron had been questioned by Deakins, but what would he have done to ease so easily with her?
My thoughts were interrupted as they entered the room. They explained what I could do in this new case with the killr, and then I could do the service myself.
“But if you want, I can go with you,” Cameron continued.
“This is not a case for you,” I replied, pulling on my coat and looked at him. “I don’t even know what you’re still doing here, actually.”
He looked at me with a hurt look, said an almost inaudible Ok and left the room. When I was leaving, Deakins called.
“Why are you treating Cameron like this?”
I looked at her strangely.
“I should not? He helped a criminal behind my back.”
When he said that, a laugh came from Deakins’ face.
“He didn’t do that, honey. Did not he tell you?”
When I looked at her strangely, she continued.
“He actually stole her diamond and gave it back to me when I questioned him.”
When Deakins said that, I felt how sentimental and idiotic I had been during the day. Cameron tried to talk to me all day and all I did was kick him in ignorance while all he was wanting was to talk.
“I did not know,” was my reply, while my head worked on a way to repair my mistakes. As I was leaving the room, Deakins called me once more.
“He gave up helping her because of you,” she said. I looked her in the eye, I realized that there was truth there and then I left.
__
I was coming home thinking about how I would apologize to Cam.I’ve never been so good at it and besides, he was home now with his team probably and I wanted to talk more privacy with him. Talking on the phone now sounded as cold as the streets were ringing. All my plans went downhill when I arrived at the door of my house and found him standing there.
He was moving his cell phone, but as soon as he saw me, the lock was instantaneous.
Our gazes met for a few silent seconds and despite having spent the whole day trying to hurt him with words, deep down I saw in his blue glow of his look that he just wanted to talk.
Before he could say anything though, I tried to start talking.
“Sorry.” I started and made a gesture to continue talking when he almost interrupted me. “I didn’t know you had returned the diamond and I was angry that you didn’t think of the team in case you robbed from the Mysterious Woman and then you almost died and I just got terrified and let my feelings try to hurt you.”
“It’s okay,” he replied with a smile and continued. “I’d wait for whatever time for your forgiveness.”
It melted my heart even more for forgiveness, and then a smile escaped our faces, along with those looks that conveyed more than words.
“But since forgiveness has already come, I think we can get a pizza, can we?” He continued and then gave us room to take to the street.
“It’s a great way to get everything started.”
Called it.
