After an unpleasant misunderstanding, the two become friends. It isn't long before Dean wants more, but Castiel sticks steadfastly to his rule about not dating hearing people. When Dean starts to date other people to try to get over him, Castiel starts to wonder if maybe Dean is the exception to the rule.
This fic starts off as a seemingly fluffy romcom type story (and don't get me wrong, it had those amazingly fluffy moments too), but it's quickly apparent that there's so much more to the fic than that. This fic has so much heart to it and that heart added a sweetness to the story that made the slow burn and mutual pining so devastating, but so bearable at the same time. While the fic does have your typical (but delicious!) mutual pining aspect, Dean and Castiel's relationship went so much deeper. There was a certain level of complexity that can sometimes be rare in a fic like this. The reasoning behind Castiel's reluctance to be with Dean was absolutely valid and gave him incredible amounts of depth. And Dean. Poor, sweet Dean. His eagerness to keep Castiel in his life no matter what was so wonderful and so heart wrenching all at once. It added a very lovable aspect to his character that stayed true throughout the entire fic. And the slow burn. Oh my, the slow burn! It was incredibly believable. It flowed well with the story and kept me wanting more until the very last word. And then there was the angst, and the humor, and the pining, and the sexy times. Basically in 70k words the author found a perfect balance for it all and granted us with this beautiful fic.
