Dean update:
He has to start a new round of extremely aggressive chemo soon because they've done as much as they could with the one he just finished and there's still growth. They were really hoping to be able to avoid using this one because it's been known to cause heart issues afterwards. Dean is an extremely active kid who loves soccer and it's likely that he won't be able to play anymore. However, this new chemo is known as the 'silver bullet' because it gets in there and almost always gets the job done. He's extremely frustrated and distraught and in some pain. They insert a new PICC line tomorrow, his fourth, because his last one caused clotting and they had to remove it. And then hopefully begin this new chemo as soon as possible.
Dean update:
I know it's been quite a while, but things have stayed pretty steady at 'bleh' for the last few months.
Rounds and rounds and rounds of chemo. Tons of PIC lines and all that good stuff.
But recently, my old high school (a preK-12 private school, Dean's old school) through a huge masquerade fundraiser and all of the money went to Dean. They raised a shitload of a money and had some really awesome baskets. One of them, a LA Galaxy package (four GREAT tickets, tons of gear, snack coupons, etc) went to Dean and his whole family is going soon.
His eyebrows and eyelashes are starting to grow back. He's doing pretty well, considering.
However, his older sister, Macy, she's 14 I think, just separated her shoulder from her clavicle and is out for the remainder of the volleyball season at her high school that is extremely renowned in the area for sports. It sucks, but she'll be okay for soccer. So... :)
Anyway, he's doing better. Happy as ever. Freaking kid. Admire him so damn much.
