Do you want a diaper change? Do you need a diaper change? Do you understand the difference between don't want and don't need? Are you able to understand what will happen if the wet/dirty diaper stays...
"Mommy, I wet. I need diaper change! I get a rash!"
Apparently making an effort to discuss the reasons for every diaper change instead of randomly choosing to make it a game or use distraction techniques?
It has resulted in Wren coming to me every time she is wet or poopy and letting me know she needs changing NOW.
So. Uh. If anyone is wondering... No, asking your toddler's consent for diaper changes doesn't make them think it is optional. Apparently it makes them adamant that it is super necessary and time critical.
Especially when I am driving.

Some of you might have come across articles bashing Deanne Carson for advocating respect and consent from birth, using change of nappies as an example.
I was pondering about writing a few things about that but then Nurshable wrote several good posts about that topic, so I’m just linking to these: https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1537449816365736 https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1538001096310608 https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1538138196296898 https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1538148716295846 https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1538164159627635 https://www.facebook.com/Nurshable/posts/1538482302929154
