The One That Almost Got Away - What happens when Dean’s pent up feelings boil over?
Please enjoy yet another imagine that has been floating around in my head for awhile!
It was a cold Winter morning, in the Michigan woods. Deciding to step out onto the cabin porch, you could see every breath you took. Soaking it all in, made you feel calm. There was a storm that was about to hit, but you weren’t sure when. The Gates of Hell have been opened, and all Hell was about to break lose. It was the ‘Calm Before the Storm’ so to speak.
Moments like these, didn’t come around too often. The warmth radiating off the mug that was warning your hands. It was a spur of the moment trip, deciding that it would be good for both you and Castiel to take a little break. Charlie, had called you with a ‘911′ hacking emergency, there was a little bit of humor in the situation. Since, Charlie had been the one to teach you, now you were the one to teach her, a ‘Student has surpassed, the master,’ situation if you will. You knew that Charlie would find the humor in it, so you had to tell her. The reaction you revived from her was unexpected, she snorted and wheezed with laughter.
Sometimes, on the rarity, you missed being ‘normal’. Meaning, that you wished you could have everything and everyone you had now, minus the constant impending doom looming over head.
“What’s bothering you?” a monotone voice pulled you from your thoughts.
“Oh you know, the end of the world as we know it, just normal things.”
You were close to all the boys, however Jack and Castiel seemed to cling to you like a lifeline, it didn’t bother you because it made you feel needed, like you had a sense of purpose.
“You shouldn’t worry about that. The world is in great hands, between you, Sam and Dean.”
“Don’t forget about you and Jack.”
“Yes, but we’re not hunters.”
“That doesn’t mean anything.”
Castiel smiled at your comment. Standing next to you, it was silent. Not an awkward silence, but a calming, in the moment type of silence.
“We should probably pack up the car. We have a long drive ahead of us.”
“I don’t know why you insisted on driving, I could’ve just-”
“Then you wouldn’t get the full human affect Cas.”
“What does driving long hours have to do with that?”
“That’s called a ‘Road trip’ Cas. People often do it for fun, and vacations.”
“Why would someone want to do that?”
Sometimes the angel baffled, you in amusement. You couldn’t stop the slight shake of the head, and smile that spread across your face.
“Good morning, my fellow Nerds.” A cheery and chipper voice sounded.
“Good morning, Charlie.” You and Cas both said in unison.
“We should be heading back.”
The three of you walked to your car and loaded it both your suitcases.
“Here. It’s a little something I made. It’s full of some of our favorite soundtracks from various movies.”
“Thanks Charlie. Uh, you do know that we don’t really use CD’s anymore right?”
“Yeah, but I thought this was cooler.”
Letting out a giggle, you responded, “Yeah I suppose it is.”
Castiel made his way over to the both of you, “Thanks Charlie. Y/N. What is it?”
“It’s a CD Cas. People put a blank CD into their Desktop or Laptop, and ‘Burn’ music onto, and then you put it into your CD player in your card or your portable CD player. Then the music that’s on the CD, plays.”
“Ohh that makes sense. I think I got it. What’s a Desktop?”
“It’s a-”
“Let it go, Y/N. Or we will be here for the next six hours explaining things.” Charlie giggled.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Aren’t I always?”
“Shut up.”
With that Charlie stood outside, waving goodbye at you and Cas, while you were leaving. The drive was so long, you and Cas made various stops along the way. Dean had been texting you what felt like every few minutes. You and Dean were Best Friends, however, you had developed feelings for the guy. There was a sudden change in his actions over the past year, he wasn’t flirting with girls at the bars, he hadn’t been bringing any girls home. He was suddenly, interested in your ‘Nerd Shows,’ as he called them. It was like he was trying to impress someone. Whoever she was, you were jealous.
Once, you arrived back at the bunker, you and Cas each grabbed your bags making your ways to your rooms. It was 1:30am, you both tried to be as quiet as you could, biding your ‘Good Nights’ to each other.
Opening your door, your were surprised to see the scene before you. Dean was fast asleep cuddled up in your bed. He must’ve missed you a lot. Dropping your bag silently, you made your way to your attached bathroom to change into your pajamas.
Dean was now starting to stir. Quickly, making your way to the Opposite side of the bed you climb in.
“Y/N?” A deep groggy husky voice sounded.
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“S’Good you’re back.” Catching you off guard, he wrapped an his left arm around your waist, pulling you to him, while he nuzzled your neck. His warmth radiating in your cold room.
“I missed you kid.”
“I missed you too, Winchester.”
“Good to know Sweetheart.”
A comfortable silence took over.
“Sweetheart?”
Mumbling half asleep you responded, “Yeah?”
“Did you ever go to prom?”
“Huh? Dean, what’re you getting at? It’s four in the morning.”
“Forget it.”
Sighing with regret you answered, “No, I didn’t go to prom. Nobody wanted to go with me.”
“That’s a shame Sweetheart. Now look at you, saving everyone’s asses.”
“I suppose. Why do you ask?”
“No reason. Let’s go to sleep.”
Dean woke up before you. Tomorrow, was your birthday and he was determined to make it the best birthday you’ve ever had.
“So you want to throw her a ‘Prom’ for her birthday?” Sam asked in disbelief.
“That’s the plan.”
“Uh huh, right. And where do you suppose this is going to happen?”
Dean held his arms out, as if the answer was obvious.
“Right here in the bunker. Come’on keep up, Sammy Boy.”
Crossing his arms, he shot his brother a classic, Sam Winchester Bitch Face.
“And I suppose you want my help.”
“Obviously.”
“No.” Sam stated quickly.
“Sam, it’s for Y/N. She deserves something nice to be done for her.”
Sighing in defeat, Sam knew he was right. Y/N, was his best friend and he knew she deserved for world, especially since they had pulled her into the Hunting world.
“Fine. For, Y/N.”
“Good, but she can’t know.”
Suddenly, catching both men off guard, you stepped into the library.
