Chris' birthday project 2019: Dear Chris, Happy Birthday! Love, us"

So, I felt a bit nostalgic lately, remembering how much I loved writing letters, how romantic and magic it is to receive and write them.

I thought it would be nice, in a world where social media and instant messaging have taken up our way of communication, to go back to how it felt to write down our feelings, in this case how we feel about Chris and to wish him a Happy Birthday.

What I'm asking this year is to write him a SHORT letter containing a birthday wish and a SHORT sentence about anything you want to write to him.

I'll obviously gather all the letters in a video, so it's more immediate for him to read them, but I thought I will also send him a scrapbook by mail with a collection of all your messages I will print and put together, so the letters will keep their meaning.

These are the instructions :

1) WRITE CHRIS A SHORT LETTER CONTAINING :

-DEAR Chris, (it has to start as a letter, of course!)

-A BIRTHDAY WISH

-ONE SENTENCE ABOUT ANYTHING YOU WANT TO TELL HIM (Please, don't write long sentences, it wouldn't be easy to be shown on a video, we want to send an immediate and easy message to him)

2) YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SEND ME THE LETTER:

-either as a video where you first show your letter and then you read it (please prefer this if you can!) - > if you send a video reading the letter, I need you to also send me a clear pic of just the written letter, to add it to the scrapbook.

-or as a picture with you in it, so you write your short letter on a cardboard and send a picture of you holding it - > again send me a separate pic of just the letter without you in it, for the scrapbook

-or as a pic of your short letter without you in it

RECOMMENDATIONS:

-Messages in your own language are very welcome and much appreciated, but don't forget to send a translation!

-Make your letter beautiful and artsy! Be original! Film yourself while writing the letter, read it in a beautiful place with a great view, use a cute writing paper, draw something in it.

-If you send a pic, write in big letters, preferably black on white, and send a clear pic in a good light!

-I STRONGLY ask you to prefer videos of you talking, or pics of yourself, because it's so much more meaningful to show him our faces and voices. But if you aren't comfortable with this, just a pic of the letter is ok as well!

IT'S EARLIER THAN USUAL, NO EXCEPTIONS, 'CAUSE I'LL NEED EXTRA TIME TO PUT THE SCRAPBOOK TOGETHER AND SEND IT.

Please don't wait last minute and then tell me you haven't time anymore! You have 56 days, it's a lot!

I lost it the other night. All day I was craving a vodka redbull. I guess it's a trigger for me now. I was saying goodnight to Jay and Sam smith was playing in the background. And I lost it. And it took so long, even when I went inside, so so long to stop crying. It hurt. It still hurts. It's hard to breathe without you here.

I would do anything to have you back. Everyday there is something I wish I could tell you. Or something I wish you were there for. I knew it wouldn't be easy with you gone. But it hasn't gotten better. The only upside is that I no longer cry everyday. But there is still a gaping hole in my heart that you took with you the night you died. And that hole will never be filled, or patched, or stitched closed. It's open and gaping and it cries your name out in the dead of night when I have a spare second of silence.

Okay, I’m going to say this to the internet, because I can’t say it to Chris Evans: It’s okay to admit when you’re not okay.   It’s okay to leave when you’re not okay and you can’t deal. Regardless of how many or what sort of people you might be disappointing by doing so.  Always take care of yourself first. Always.  People who really care about you will understand.  This whole fucked up myth that “biting the bullet” and forcing yourself to do something when you’re not okay will somehow solve all of your problems is total bullshit.
