Nic Stone - Dear Martin
I have to choose a book for my grad school class. Has anyone read any of these? Which should I pick?
The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
Dear Martin by Nic Stone
Love, Hate, and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed
Books can be racist just like movies
There I said it
Exactly. That's why a lot of these so called classics need to stop being read in schools. Main example being How To Kill A Mockingbird. You wanna teach your kids about racism against Black ppl? Have your students read books that are written by Black authors and from the perspective of the ppl that are oppressed. Read The Hate U Give, Dear Martin, A Song Below Water, even freaking A Blade So Black shows how racism can affect young Black ppl even though it's not the main plot of the book. They don't try and they don't want to. If they did books like The Hate U Give wouldn't freaking be on the banned list. Period.
