The changes they made from the original animated film served to enhance the story beautifully, making it a perfect reimagining for today’s audiences--without alienating the “older” viewers like myself, and dare I speak for “us” all by saying it delighted well, instead.
But the sweetest thing of all--for me--was having my adult Daughter by my side as I cried plenty of sentimental tears, especially during the ballroom dance. For as a toddler, not yet turned two, it was her favorite movie (we still have the stuffed Disney Store Beast my best friend gave her that birthday). In the fall of ‘95 I was in my last trimester, expecting Son--and when I was exhausted & in need of a nap, it was our go to movie to have her settle a while so I could rest. Inevitably though, I would have to join her as Belle & her Beast danced--the three of us (me, she & baby in utero) to waltz around the living room as best we could. Today she & I watched it arm in arm, and for a little while the intervening years folded away, and we were younger again, but also the women we have grown into today. Another sweet experience to cherish.
