Albert huffed a breath to himself, really he just wanted to get back to the Palace and out of sight and reach of any cameras that might have been lurking near by. He eyed the man in front of him though and while he was reluctant, he was at least compliant, his health had been waning in recent years and he knew he needed to be properly checked.

“There was -someone in the --crowd that became over excited, they -had a starting -pistol and fired a few shots.” He explained calmly while his arm moved to subconsciously protect his lower ribs. “The -people -panicked, there was a -surge and I was --knocked -to the floor.” That had been it for the incident at least, but his missing lung, aching leg and fragile heart had made his officials panic. “I’m -alright.” He attempted to reassure the other, a King could not be sick or weak after all.

While the undercover detective was no genuine purveyor of the arts, she still had an excellent eye for attractive individuals. One could call it a gift or a curse, depending on which side of the scorecard you’re sitting on. She’d done more than her fair share of picking up some real landmines.

Her heart beat with a newfound life when the man seemed to approve of the lines she’d rehearsed. Tubbs had been expecting a prompt rebuff followed by an equally swift rebuke. Relief drifts over all of her features, a soft smile warming across her lips. “Yeah? You think so?” She leans herself casually up against the wall closest to him. Coffee and evergreen hues fixate almost adoringly upon him.

Curiosity wins her over and she tugs on the dangling thread he had left her. “What lines do other people use?” Working Vice had made her privy to all kinds of pick-ups; the good, the bad, the ugly, and obscene.

He kept his gaze on the flowers, pondering for a moment.

“Well, it’s mostly rather simple,” He began, gently caressing one of the Acacia Blossoms between his fingers, “It seems that whoever has bought these flowers wishes to make a subtle declaration of love - the white Chrysanthemums allude to the idea that the pair have known each other for quite a while, and are considerably close as it is...judging by the Azaleas, the recipient of these has a habit of being quite careless in their ways...the Carnations confuse me, though - I’ll never forget you...does the giver intend to leave the recipient’s side? It certainly does evoke that sentiment...though perhaps I’m analysing things a little too much...”

He glanced back up at Ryan, adding, “I find the language of flowers quite fascinating. It’s a shame that such practices aren’t performed much during this point in time...although, judging by this, there are those who are still partial to the odd symbolic message or two...I wonder who these belong to?”

16 -  A HAPPY KISS

Panting heavily, The Doctor hurtled himself out of a nearby window, colliding harshly with the ground seconds before an explosion rippled through the building, causing every single pane of glass to shatter to smithereens. He and Ryan had been investigating what had appeared to be an abandoned house - much against the latter’s wishes - only to discover that they’d walked into a trap of sorts. With no other option but to flee, the pair had done just that, doing their best to evacuate the scene as fast as they could.

Coughing and spluttering, The Doctor slowly clambered to his feet, his eyes immediately scanning the vicinity for a sign of his friend - but he was nowhere to be found. In an instant, his stomach began to turn, horror filling his mind. Just a moment ago, Ryan had been a couple of steps behind him, so where was he?

No...please, no...

“Ryan!” He shrieked, blatantly panicking as he surveyed his surroundings once again. He was contemplating running back into the building when a horrendous CREAK! was heard, followed by a CRASH! as the house began to collapse in on itself. He stood in silence for a moment, tears beginning to fill his eyes as the full extent of the situation became apparent. If Ryan was still in there, then there was now no chance of-

He paused as he heard a faint sound nearby.

Is that someone coughing?

Glancing to his right, he caught sight of a figure stumbling towards him, covered in ash and doing their best to clear the smoke from their lungs. It didn’t take The Doctor very long at all to recognise him, and when he did, an immense wave of relief rushed over him.

Thank goodness...

Without hesitation, he broke into a sprint, practically dragging Ryan into his arms and clinging onto him for dear life, laughing in the process. His relief had been quickly replaced by utter joy - and he was so happy at the sight of the weary redhead, after expecting the very worst had happened to him, he grabbed Ryan’s cheeks and planted a spontaneous, and an actually quite passionate, kiss onto his lips, before pulling away and regarding him with a stern frown.

“Don’t you ever do that to me again, do you understand?”

“Let” was a flat out lie. And he was too embarrassed to tell the truth of the matter because it would have made him seem weak.

“Erm, well, you see...”

Stanley began, because he would have to come clean. Ryan was a doctor after all.

“I might have owed some people money... B... but it’s sorted, I promise.”

083: He’ll typically get out of bed, lay out his clothes, and immediately head into the bathroom for a shower. He thinks that being in the presence of others while in his pyjamas is impolite, and as a result, no-one has ever seen him in them. After that, he’ll usually settle down for a cup of tea and some breakfast, along with a consultation of a book or a newspaper.

As to the first words he typically speaks, it is almost always “Good morning!”, even if it’s to himself.

The Doctor had been engaging in amicable conversation with Ryan during his lunch break when he’d spotted a large, tastefully wrapped bouquet on a nearby desk.

“Ah, look - they’re pretty flowers, aren’t they?” He commented, walking over and taking the bunch in his hands, before carefully expecting them, “Now, let’s see...loyal, yet hidden love...remembrance...and consideration - whoever bought these certainly wants to convey a message, don’t they?”
