Dear Self [DEAR SOMEONE #1]
Dear Self,
Wow. Look at you. Writing yourself a love letter. Who would've thought you'd be doing something like this, huh? I mean, yeah, sure, you love to write... or at least, you used to love to write. But this is the first time you've actually taken the time to just sit down and talk to yourself, or write yourself a love letter. First things first, how do you even write a love letter?
I don't think there's really a format, so I'm just gonna wing this.
Hello, again, self. Today is Sunday, March 7, 2021. In February, you decided to start doing a "self-care Sunday" but surprise, surprise, you only did it once last month. But now, we're starting anew. We're gonna do this "self-care Sunday" every week from now on. It feels good, right? Just, sleeping in... not worrying about anything, what you look like, what you need to do, and all those other shenanigans. Because this day is just for you. Looking after yourself isn't that bad, after all.
Remember when you did your first self-care Sunday in February? You cried after that whole day, or when you were about to sleep because you were just so guilty for having that kind of self-care for yourself. But today is just so different. You actually slept in and woke up at 10 am, had your brunch, just relaxed after washing the dishes, took a much needed warm half-bath, and you even SURPRISINGLY cleaned your room as a form of self-care because if you're taking good care of yourself then you should make sure that your room is clean so you won't get sick and would actually have a clear skin, right? Then after that, you watched a movie. The movie was supposedly only one hour or so but you watched it for like 3 hours or 2? Because you kept on going out of the room, you kept on pausing the movie! LOL! But overall, you enjoyed the film. You watched High Note and you expected that it's gonna be a feel good film. But you actually saw yourself in Maggie's (Dakota Johnson) character. But more of that later. After watching the film, you went out to join Mama for karaoke. Kuya Von requested you to sing Iingatan Ka by Carol Banawa and he told Kobe and the Family group chat that when you were young, Papa would ask you to sing this song and would give you money afterwards. How you missed the good old days, no? But then, dinner happened. Mama and Basti had a misunderstanding. You tried reaching out to Basti but he didn't give you any attention. Instead, he locked himself up at the other room. You're hoping he won't do anything to hurt himself. It's okay to worry sometimes. It's normal. Just leave the worry be. You can try reaching out to him again later.
By the way, you also had one bottle of San Mig Apple because Chefani gave Mama two bottles and Mama had already downed the other one and offered you the other bottle. Actually, you turned it down earlier when you were doing a coloring page and listening to your audiobook (The Zookeeper's Wife). I don't know why you changed your mind, though! LOL. Then, you wrote a journal entry for your weekly reflection and it's actually your first! You kinda messed up the design, as you always do, but the content's pretty good.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, you were chosen to be one of The Literary Culture's crew! WOW. It's your first time to be a rep for a company. Danica is also chosen and you still don't know if she remembers you. But if she does, I hope she doesn't hold any grudges anymore about the past. Bryan and Alexx were also chosen! Yay! Totally can't wait for the free products. You have a lot in mind on how to be a good rep, right? Go, girl!
Now, let's talk about how you saw yourself in Maggie's role in High Note earlier. Maggie had a bachelor's degree in composing and she loves music as much as you love books. After graduation, she started working as an assistant to a famous singer, Grace Davis (I don't really know the actress's name). She wants to be a music producer, but she feels like she's not cut for it since she's "just an assistant". And that’s how you see yourself in her. She’s so much better than you, by the way, since she really did something to get her dream. But you -- oh, you’re doing nothing to reach your dream. I’m sorry, do you even know what your dream is? I know that this is a love letter and I’m supposed to say “lovely” things to you, but hey, this is how I’m showing my love for you right now. By being honest with you.
Seriously, you need to start working on your dreams. You need to start laying it all out. What do you really want to be? What are your dreams? Yes, you can have many dreams and I know you, you want to do a lot of things. You want to write. You want to work in a publishing house. You want to be a full-time content creator. You want to be an educator. Now, where do you start? How do you start?
When you read this after a year, I hope you’ve already done something about your dreams. You don’t have to do them all at once. As you’ve written in your weekly reflection today, “One step at a time.”
You can do this. You just need to have a solid plan, a willing mind, determination, and hard work. I BELIEVE IN YOU.
I love you, okay? I love you.
Always here for you,
Areli
