This has been a special week. This is the first time I've flown this little guy to be with my family in Chicago, the first time he's met my father, and the first time he's gotten to make a snow angel or sled down a hill. This is the first time I've been a mom in a space that wasn't my own, and the first time I've seen my parents as grandparents in the new roles they're playing. ⁣ ⁣ Becoming a mama to this little guy didn't just change my life; it also impacted all the people around me. It made my sister an 'Auntie K,' my father a 'Papa,' my mother a 'Nana,' and all the special traditions of our family more memorable.⁣ ⁣ This week, I've played board games and climbed park structures, slid down slides into mud puddles, made crafts, and recounted embarrassing memories from my childhood. The first three days of the trip were a him-and-I adventure, and then we were joined by dad right before Thanksgiving. Our lives haven't been easy over the past year. There have been turns, twists, painful quarantines away from extended family, and a whole lot of change.
