hey i was wondering what the difference is of an OSDD-1a and a OSDD-1b system
OSDD is simply 'other specified dissociative disorder', right? Adding the -1 is a specification that indicates referring to the first example in the DSM, so saying it's close-to-but-not-quite-DID.
So OSDD-1a and OSDD-1b are both simply missing one criteria for DID, but it's a different criteria in each of them.
OSDD-1B is more common, as it's missing the 'beyond ordinary forgetting' criteria, which is common in systems at all stages of their journey, and also a lot of DID systems will be reclassified as OSDD-1b once they have healed. It's also possible to have amnesia about amnesia, thus leading to an OSDD-1b classification when DID would be more accurate. Fortunately, the treatment paths are pretty much the same.
OSDD-1A on the other hand is lacking in the differentiated parts criterion. 1a systems often may identify as median, and have parts that are more extremes of one person, as opposed to completely different people like one would find in 1b and DID systems.
To create an example, a DID system might have two parts; let's call them Tyler and Jade. When Tyler is fronting, Jade often loses time, and vice versa.
In a 1b system, they might still be Tyler and Jade, but they experience shared memories. When Tyler is fronting, Jade might be co-conscious, or simply aware of everything that is going on, and when Jade is fronting Tyler experiences the same.
In a 1a systems, they might have two parts, but it would be more like Old Joan, Young Joan, and when Old Joan is fronting, Young Joan looses time.
That may be a bad example, since none of the mod team has OSDD-1A, but that's roughly our understanding.
