Is “Dear Winter” by AJR about his future son or future daughter? (I realize this excludes other identities but it’s just for discussion purposes)
Reasons it might be a son: - The “I hope you talk to...” part begins with girls and from the heteronormative society we live, one would assume we are talking to a boy.
- The name Winter began as a male name
Reasons it might be a daughter:
- When it talks about the child being 13 and screaming at the singer for parenting them wrong, one might assume this to be a sign that Winter is a girl because of the natural occurrence of afab brains develop at a quicker rate (around the ages of 11-13) and would be hormonal at that time while amab brains develop a bit later (around the ages of 13-15)
- When the singer talks about Winter being a badass name, one could assume this is a feminine phrase because one often hears “badass” as a descriptor of women rather than men
