sylvain? ... really?
you remember being eleven years old, two years before everything went wrong, and not entirely sure who you were yet. the world seemed not quite formed, and glenn stood over you, protective, but his shadow was long. you remember being eleven years old, and watching the sunlight shine through sylvain jose gautier’s hair like a firebrand. you remember, distinctly, your heartrate picking up. you remember, in slow motion, watching his eyes crease as he laughed. you remember a few years before that, you six and he eight, little fingers linked together in a promise that you will not - cannot - shall not break. you remember, you remember, how your heart skipped and your mouth went dry, and how ingrid had looked at you, all eyes narrowed, like she did at a puzzle or a complicated maths question. you remember knowing, even then.
even then, you’d known: your circumstances weren’t exactly usual, but boys didn’t marry boys. but your heart had snarled, after glenn had died and he’d draped himself over you after the funeral - after sreng, even as things went wrong - you hadn’t seen each other for so long, five years, you thought, you thought, you thought your feelings might change. you thought -
“yeah. i know. i don’t need you to tell me.” a snap - it’s a sensitive topic, even if hilda is only teasing. “we’ve know each other since we were kids. those kinda things - they stick around.” you know.
@deathcrest / starter call.
“you piss me off.” tone cold, lip curls, eyes narrowed, you stare up at him ( god ! he’s so tall, it’s annoying ! ) and snarl. people have often commented how you’re as much of a skirt chaser as him, but it’s different, okay ? you’re not like him. “how fucking long you gonna keep standing there with that goofy looking smile on your ugly mug, huh?” you can be sweet when you want to be. you do not want to be sweet now.
we all know that dragons historically speaking hoard things. what does seteth hoard. tell me. i need to know what seteth hoards.
ASDFLKJASODLJFLASKJD he hoards books and swords. have u SEEN his office
@deathcrest
help. that’s what sylvain offered you. it’s true that telling the TRUTH of what the church has done, of crests, of fodlan’s true history a thousand years ago now will be an arduous task. ( one you have thought on for the past five years while working to restore order and reform the church. ) you’ve a long way to go, and you’re so tired but your work is never done. ( you wonder, briefly how it ever came to this. )
❝ you were looking for me, sylvain? ❞ it’s almost reminiscent of when you first really spoke to the youth ( he’s not a YOUTH anymore, now is he? you forget how differently time flows for humans. such short lives. no wonder they’re always in a rush. ) except now your roles have REVERSED in an odd way. word must have gotten out you’re leaving garreg mach if he’s here, probably to catch you before you become nigh impossible to track down.
s.c. @deathcrest
it’s a coincidence, is what you initially thought when you first laid eyes on yourroster for the semester. it’s not UNCOMMON for people to be named after historical figures, least of all the full name. you’ve had plenty of students in your class with the same name as you--- and even after your daughter. ( which is something you doubt you’ll ever really get use to. ) but when you SEE him you’re driven to an intense feeling of deja vu.
you’ve never put great deal of faith into REINCARNATION. for your people it was . . . DIFFERENT. your hearts carry your souls even past death, however in order to achieve such a thing would need UNETHICAL experiments. but with HUMANS . . . they don’t have that, so this can’t be the sylvain you knew hundreds of years ago now. and yet you feel twice as nostalgic when you see him standing at the doorway of your office. ❝ ah . . . sylvain, was it? are you having any difficulties in my class? ❞
