Walter Plunkett made seventeen versions of this calico gown for Vivien Leigh to wear in the 1939 film 𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅. One version, not yet found, supposedly appears in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒓𝒐 𝑲𝒊𝒅 in 1942. Another version was worn by Eilene Janssen as Judy Dawson in 𝑩𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒐 𝑺𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒇 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒔 in 1951, though the sleeves and collar were altered. The film is in black and white, so its color is never seen. The altered version appears to have been worn in the long-running western television show 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑫𝒂𝒚𝒔 in the pilot episode entitled 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝑮𝒐𝒕 𝑰𝒕𝒔 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆, where it was worn by Phyllis Coates as Virginia Arcane. One of the dresses made its way into the Shaw Tumblin 𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅 Collection and was eventually sold by Heritage Auctions in April 2015.
