she was just a baby.........
i love when debbie hugs jasmine so tightly it's like she's suffocating her. her possessiveness, her whole consumption, subsumption of her. she really does want all of herrrrr, entire and constantly and always (to the point it becomes a source of tension, difficulty for jasmine!! wahh). debbie's so jeyi here to meeee, with her mouse she wants to play with and direct and contain and eat.....
their first proper conversation :))))) They literally hate each other omg i really do always win.. YURI FOREVERRRRRRR
debbie's 2004 buffyisms killing me so so bad. my girls....
cain finding out about their reunion by Chris forcing himself on her.. just like him discovering cain and charity's affair wowww.. the use of assault in this story is soo good. it works as the physical reality, the most explicit expression of the abuse and terrorising of her.. and then in a larger sense.. in how it shows how this is a battle between these two monsters of men, vying for victory over and of Their women, their spoils of war.. how the women, how charity and debbie, are trapped without choice without escape from either side.. the treatment is the Same.. cain.. Just like chris... referring to her as an animal.. them both delighting in embarrassing her here, her visible and verbal embarrassment, overriding her consent her wishes her discomfort, tarring her reputation to the villagers forever (She's the animal She's the slut She's the uncontrollable cheat.. ← forever the whore, something so emphasised by cain and chris, forever weaponised against her in all) it's not that they don't care, it's that they deliberately choose to enact it, and rejoice in it. she's not collateral damage, she's both the target and the possession. they want to destroy her they want to Have her, they want to Use her to get to each other and they want to Use her because she's theirs.... their masculinity war ('i can see that you've been crying' from chris, the attack on Cain's obvious emotionality....followed up by Cain's physical attack.. they both want to be the Big man in the ways they know how... they're really both so alike) is more important than any of her wants or asks or welfare.. but she's the very Thing (and she is just a thing ← chris' use of her as a visual accessory here sooo apt) that enabled them to get at each other so intimately .. patriarchy will always be homosocial.. even between two men who despise each other. They still honour and respect each other infinitely more than the Woman they fight to claim and claim to fight for..
some jebbie so far :')
charity's dreams of taking debbie away.... they got so close it makes me cryyyy. imagine what could've been. debbie is so angry at her here but she still listens, still wonders, is still tempted. the immediate shift when cain storms in... debbie's cry of don't hurt her as he throws charity out, so haunting. it's soooooo awful that she was left with him. and charity knew what would happen, what he would do to her, she says it here, she says it sooo many times.... but as always, she was also so powerless to stop it, stop him, rescue, scoop debbie up, out of his hands, and away. debbie's dreams of a loving father, her big heart so sad for him, keeping her chained. maybe that's cain's worse trait.. the false promises, the compelling trickery, the brokenhearted face.. all to say that he will be better, that he will love, that he will changeee, even though he never will, never could, never even wants to, never really tries
my debbie the mechanic ^_^
