Get Ready With Me:Work Edition

With the spring quarter winding down, our last requirement for this blog was to create a capstone video. Something that related to the context of our blog to add multimedia effect. I thought the perfect video for my blog would be a "get ready with me video" that are really popular in the YouTube beauty community now. This type of video is not a tutorial and not supposed to be a step by step process. It is just supposed to show how that person would get ready for something, I chose to film mine as I was getting ready for work. In the video you see how I do my makeup, hair (which I just let hair dry), and outfit choice.

Splurge Sunday?

Okay so I know, this blog is supposed to stay away from high end products and only talk about products completely affordable for broke college girls like me. But you all know sometimes school, homework, and jobs can really start to take a toll on you. Sometimes, you really just feel you deserve to do something nice for yourself. Reward yourself for all the hard work you have been putting yourself through. Well, here at RIT we are now moving into week eight which means it is all starting to wind down. Last week really took a toll on me with homework that was due, two jobs, and registering for classes for the fall ( but I won't get into it it's a long story.)

Anyway one of my co-workers and friend who is an amazing beauty blogger was raving about this palette she just discovered from Ulta called the Lorac "Glow Getter" palette. She also featured a makeup tutorial on her YouTube channel using this palette.

Once she showed all the gorgeous colors in it and I saw how easily she created a gorgeous eye look, I needed to have it in my life. However it was a high-end product, which usually means a high price tag. Well ladies, listen up. This palette filled with eight (makeup artist quality) eyeshadows is only $20 at Ulta. Now, this may seem like a pretty penny to spend on eyeshadow but let me break down the math for you.

One Maybelline quad (four shadow palette) from ulta is $9.99, meaning if you bought two (to get eight eyeshadows) you would still be spending about $20. Maybelline eyeshadows are definitely good quality as well, but they are not at the same level as these Lorac shadows are. They are so smooth, blend-able, and extremely pigmented. It is extremely rare that you ever find a high-end eyeshadow palette with eight eyeshadows for only $20, it really is such a steal. I would way rather spend the full $20 on a Lorac limited edition Ulta exclusive palette then two Maybelline palettes I can get at anytime. Expecially when I feel I need to spoil myself just this one time (to motivate me of course.)

The best part about this Lorac palette is that it is extremely versatile for the upcoming Spring and Summer months with all the gorgeous color selections provided! It even comes with neutral shades as well to balance out day and night appropriate looks.

I know I may have splurged a little this sunday afternoon, but I feel it was completely worth it. Also, if you would like to spoil yourself too and grab this high-end palette for only $20 I would do it fast, because it is an Ulta exclusive and I am not sure how long they will be offering it for.

California Rollin’ Offers Sushi Making Classes By: Nikole DeBell Not many people would be able to whip up sushi for a Monday night dinner. It’s more of a “let’s meet out for sushi” kind of meal. What if you could combine the two together? California Rollin’ II at Ontario Beach will be offering sushi-making classes every Monday from now until March. The classes combine the elements of a fun night out with friends, and learning to make your own sushi creations.

Photo Credit: Nikole DeBell) Owner Tom Beaman started offering the sushi classes to compensate for the slower months of January to March. “During the colder months in the winter not many people are really interested in driving down to the beach area,” said Beaman, “This gives people a reason to get up and out of the house.” “One of the greatest things about the classes is everyone gets to make new friends,” said Beaman, “The groups don’t all know each other at the beginning but by the end they are all taking pictures together and having a great time.” Marcy Colopietro really enjoyed her experience at the sushi making class. “I decided to go to the class because my daughter Maria works there, and insisted on me going,” said Colopietro, “I’m glad I did.” “It was a really fun night with my girlfriends and for the price of the class, you really can’t beat it,” said Colopietro. The class sits 10 people each Monday and is $49.99 per person. In the class you receive: • Food upon arrival • All you can drink draft beer, house Saki, or fountain drinks • Learn to make 8-10 rolls, which you can eat there or take home • Make your own dessert • Rolling mat (to use your new knowledge in kitchen at home) • 1 Saki bomb at the end (21 and over)

Photo credit: Nikole DeBell) “Each roll on our menu typically ranges from $6-10,” said Beaman, “ If you ordered all we are offering in the classes on a typical night your spending well over $100, it really is an amazing offering.” The classes are family friendly and recommended for ages 13 and up. You can bring a group of friends but the classes do fill up fast.

Photo Credit: Nikole DeBell) “Every Monday we have a list of people to call back if someone decides not to show up,” said Maria Colopietro California Rollin’ manager. “People start calling ahead and reserving spots for classes in December,” said Maria. Right now the classes are only offered at the Charlotte location. Beaman was not sure if he would be expanding the classes to the Village Gate location in the near future. Beaman hopes his classes will encourage people in the Rochester area to try new things. “Get out of the house especially during the cold winter months, which can leave people in a rut,” said Beaman. A fun night out at sushi class might be just the thing for that!
