How can you not feel bad for Dr. Kells!? She kept having miscarriages. That's terrible.
Deborah Susan Kells deserves no sympathy in my opinion. Yes, her miscarriages suck, 100%. But if it was a child she wanted, she could have adopted, or could have gotten a surrogate mother. But instead she let it consume her.
She adopted children, who could have had a good life, and murdered them. MURDERED these babies. Again and again. She messed Jude’s (and Claire’s) life by artificially manifesting something that, perhaps, wouldn’t have happened otherwise. She messed Jude’s life by making him into that. She manipulated Jude by using his dead sister, promising that she would come back to life.
And then she used her adopted kids–whom she almost killed, and in the process made one crazy and unstable–to RUIN the life of a teenage girl. Dr. Kells was the cause of her best friends death in all of this. Dr. Kells made Mara’s family believe that she was crazy and suicidal. Kells made her family lose trust in her, and isolated her from the people she loved most.
Because of Kells, Mara couldn’t normally go to school, get a chance to make more friends, have a normal relationship, couldn’t trust many people, etc. She brought her worst fear (Jude, at the time) to life over and over again, tormenting her.
Dr. Kells murdered teenagers who did have mental problems, who were trying to get better (excluding Adam’s sociopath-self). For all intents and purposes, she ruined Jamie’s academic career, among other things, and more than likely brought Stella into the abusive home she was in. She made Mara believe she was crazy. She experimented on them, and had no remorse. She ruined Mara’s life so much, it makes me so mad.
And what’s worse is she believed she was doing good. She believed she was helping them and the world. Even when she was seconds away from killing Mara. David Shaw is just as guilty but at least he didn’t mask what he did as “good.”
So excuse me while I cheer for the 100th time that she died. She doesn’t deserve my sympathy anymore than the couple of lines it took for her to die.
