πͺ ANIME REVIEW: Plus-Sized Misadventures In Love
For what it is, I see this show as a thoroughly entertaining comfort anime. It deftly balances its sticky sweet rom-com presentation against its darker dramatic mystery subplot, and I found the mix of both to be wholly engrossing and uniquely endearing. More importantly though, in a world of ubiquitous same-facery among anime protagonists, Yumeko stands out as being only of the only fat woman main characters I can think of in the entire medium's storied history, and - given how fatness is treated around the world but ESPECIALLY in Japanese culture - there is absolutely a statement being made there. Anyone who can't take that seriously just because the show is a candy-colored cascade of cutesy comedy must be blind.
