I just got back from watching 'Iron Lung' and OH MY GODS, IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!! Even if I weren't a Markiplier fan, which I've been for 9 years now, I would still have been blown out of the water; I suppose it helps that I'm already a huge fan of psychological horror/thrillers, but the tension of the claustrophobia, the hallucinations/questioning what you can and can't trust, and the need of the many outweighing the need of the few or the one all tied together in such a beautiful way, and I definitely recommend people watch this movie!! It takes a LOT to impress me with movies cos even though I like going to movie theaters, I have to stim by eating something the whole way through or I'll fall asleep, though that wasn't the case with 'Iron Lung' even in the lower tension points - the pacing and dry humor was perfect, too!!
The ONLY thing that pissed me off wasn't even from the movie itself: I was waiting for my friend outside the restroom and a guy was complaining that he didn't know what was going on??? Like, you are the reason authors/screenwriters/directors, etc. feel the need to spoon feed their audiences rather than trust your reading comprehension and media literacy, FFS
Oh? A Raniastrap debut??
3 August 2025, evening performance (Joe Miller, the first cover for Munk, covered the role in the matinee so was presumably busy being a superswing elsewhere, leaving Rania to debut).
With Jarrod Draper as Tugger and Olivia Carniato as Demeter (she says she cried in the opening number)! I love that the little perpetual half-sneer half-smirk has become a warm but almost shy sideways smile... though Tugger can still bring out a bit of a smirk in him!
Charlie Follows is Bill Bailey in the bows clip.
Rania Potaka-Osborne, usually Alonzo in the 2025 Australia tour.
What did you think of Eva Segeenkova's debut as Masha? She does everything beautifully (what a gorgeous dancer), but I think other roles are better suited to her - with the exception of the pas de deux towards the end of The Nutcracker. The Bolshoi version is overtly religious, and this spiritual accent suits Sergeenkova, who is a soulful dancer imho
I completely agree with you that she is perfect for the Act 2 pas de deux. I thought she did beautifully there and really throughout all of Act 2. I also enjoyed her performance in Act 1, but as you said, Masha is not a role as natural for her as say more regal and elegant parts like Raymonda or Odette/Odile.
She's just never going to look as much like an excited child dancing in the party scene as dancers who are 5'2"-5'4"-ish and more sprightly, like Maymula, Kokoreva, or Shrayner.
Given all of this, I thought she did a lovely job and it was an altogether successful début.
Another thing, I was really hoping that Moksheva and/or Petrova would get a Masha début so fingers crossed for next season. I think more realistically we'll see Sultangareeva with a Masha debut next year, which should also be a strong performance given her recent Radish and Ramze performances.
Savelieva said in the story that she won't be performing Myrtha in any of the upcoming blocks/performances :( . I'm not sure she even got to show her preparation to the directors.
I have no insight as to what happens behind the scenes, but Savalieva has fought hard for her solo roles and I suspect she will keep trying! Honestly, I surprised that she was rehearing Myrtha but after seeing some snippets, it made sense. I think she has an inherent fierceness that emanates from her inner being. Anastasia Niukina, Maria Bulanova and Vlada Borodolina were the three go-to Myrthas at the Mariinsky. Now that Niukina's in Budapest, that leaves two. I think Anastasia Yaromenko & Evgania Savkina may be cast, as they are both getting more solo roles and both are good jumpers. They were both Queen of the Snowflakes in the Chemaykin version in the recent Nutcracker marathon, and their emploi seem like natural fits, especially Yaromenko. I love to speculate about casting. Key word: Speculate! A dark horse for Myrtha would be Veselina Ilieva. Also, I was very suprised that Khiteeva is debuting Medora later this month. I've been waiting for Bulanova to reprise that role….but I'm curious to see Khiteeva's version. Back to Savelieva, if she isn't one of Paquita's friends in the upcoming run, I'm going to be pissed for her.
