I'm talking about this interview [https://youtu.be/DNV2aDMkGzs]. A lot of people in the comments say that it was taken place on Zayn's birthday (12 Dec).

I'm confused. How do we know when it actually happened?

So I think you're referring to this post about that interview? I was not in the fandom then, and this is from nearly 10 years ago, so I'm not sure how people knew the day they filmed/recorded this specific interview.

However, @bulletprooflarry kept very well documented timelines, particularly from that time, and she says it was recorded on December 23rd 2011 and aired later on January 2012. In this post, you can see they also recorded several other interviews that same day, and 1D had a concert that night. It's the concert where Harry asks that people sing happy birthday to boobear bc Louis' birthday was the next day, and the concert he says that the venue was special to him bc it was the venue him and Louis attended the Scripts concert before they met.

1D was touring during this time, and doing a lot of promo, so they recorded a lot of segments before Christmas that were rolled out slowly afterwards, so they could have a small Christmas break.

I don't know why people in the comment section of the video think this was on December 12th 2011. I'm going with what @bulletprooflarry said.
