Feeling Like a Mirror

Excuse all of the reflection, but I did want to take a moment to write about Decadence last night.

Over the past few years I've been to quite a few festivals. EDC Orlando three times, TomorrowWorld twice, Sunset, Ultra, and Counterpoint. But this was the first that was truly out of my area. The first where I had zero expectations of seeing anyone I know and that was a strange feeling. 

It was also the first festival where I really felt confident in my hooping. Not because I'm awesome (trust me, I have A LOT to learn) but because I stopped considering if others would judge me. Sometimes it feels like other hoopers look at you judgingly like "Ok, let's see what you can do," but last night had a lot of fun, light-hearted vibes. Everyone seemed to be respectful of one another (a common theme here in Denver) and I enjoyed seeing a few people smile as they walked by, or the guy who told me he wanted to see me get funky with my hoop during Bassnectar then gave me a high five later, or the girl who was happy to oblige by my "if you want to play with my hoop you have to teach me something" rule and took the time to teach me the wedgie.

I hoop for a lot of reasons but above all else I do it for myself, because I enjoy it. Last night was the first time I really let go of what other people may think because if someone judges your happiness that's fucked and their problem not yours.

Last night was also my first time experiencing negative temperatures and it was kinda exhilarating.
