richard madden — have you seen GEORGE ALEXANDER, the thirty two year old viscount of stirling. word around court is that they're humorous & witty but i’ve also heard them described as ambitious & cunning.
George is actually the second son of the baron of stirling and so spent most of his youth in the army.
he was actually in the Scottish army that King Charles II led into England in 1650 before being defeated by Cromwell in 1651.
Upon returning to Scotland he continued his service with the army for a further four years before his elder brother was killed in a hunting accident and he had to return to Stirling to take up his position as heir to the barony.
Once his father really started teaching him everything that came with a barony, George was fascinated and took his role quite seriously, and good thing too as his father passed away only a short while after his eldest leaving George as the actual baron.
Once King Charles II was reappointed the throne, George and his family were promoted to viscounts as a reward for his help back in 1650-51.
At court he is very self conscious of the fact that he was still only recently a baron, the second son of a baron even, and feels that many people will be looking down upon him and his new rank.
He’s a very ambitious man, and he wants to improve his standing so that he no longer has to feel that way, but in the mean time can be quite touchy if he feels that people are mocking him or looking down on him.
Otherwise he’s a charming and humorous man who enjoys life at court and all the benefits of it.
have you seen HENRY HASTINGS, the twenty-five year old duke of york. word around court is that they're they’re judicious & altruistic but i’ve also heard them described as vindictive & impetuous.
*king charles song from horrible histories playing in the background*
Henry is the firstborn child, and only son of the Duke and Duchess of York, with two younger sisters following him.
His family were royalist so growing up he was taught that one day the throne would be restored to England, but whenever that day did come, he would have to fight for his King. It was his father who would often tell him that he would need to put the needs of York and his country first, leading to Henry putting his own feelings aside for others.
Throughout his childhood, not only was he groomed to be the next Duke of York, but his father ensured that his son was able to fight. There was no secret that the family supported the reinstatement of the monarchy ( with them being forced to pay recompense fees of £446 / nearly facing exile ) and so there was always a fear that a war could be at their doorstep at any point.
When he was fifteen, he fought in the Battle of Worcester, becoming one of the few royalists that survived. It was then that his family took to safety in Scotland ( after already being in their family home in the North ) and remained there for the next nine years. His father would not give up their family lands.
It was during this time that he grew closer to the daughter of another royalist family. Although the family shared a common bond, there were some historical issues between their lines, as well as Henry was already betrothed to another — deeming it unwise for him to be affectionate with somebody he could never marry.
Upon Oliver Cromwell’s death, Henry was positive that another war would occur due to the weak hold that Roundheads had on England. If he was going to die in battle then he wanted to be married and to have a child to continue the family line — or at least that was what he told his parents. He’d fallen in love and wanted to affirm it with his marriage to somebody who was not his betrothed. It went against his usually need to please, but he did it rashly without any regret.
From his marriage, he has fathered a son, who is his pride and joy. He was hesitant at first ( especially when his wife nearly died giving birth ) but now he is very much the doting father. There was recent talk about having more children until an event in the family led them on a different path.
Charles’ being reinstated has led to his family’s return to York ( as well as the English court w/ favour ) although when Henry was called to court, there was attack by the Roundheads on the family estate. His father was still weak from an old wound at the Battle of Worcester, and whilst the attack was unsuccessful in gaining hold, it led to his passing.
With the death of his father, Henry inherited the titles of York and Inverness, and his son made Baron Killyleagh. There has been some difficulty for him after losing his father — not to mention the sudden weight of responsibility. He can only celebrate that his father’s wishes were achieved, even if part of him still wants vengeance upon anybody associated with the rebels, despite the pardoning of some.
gabriella wilde — have you seen GEORGIANA HAMILTON, nee HOWARD, the twenty five year old duchess of hamilton. word around court is that they're they’re generous & agreeable but i’ve also heard them described as cunning & conceited.
she was born on the september 29th of the year 1635, making her twenty five, nearly twenty six.
second eldest child of lord and lady norfolk, she came out wailing, followed closely by a brother. george was the long awaited heir, and even if his twin had preceded him by nearly half an hour, it did not matter for the howards. nor did her parents’ brief disappointment over her gender ever bother georgiana.
named to pair up her brother, and always put behind him, georgiana still received a better reception than her younger sisters, and even her elder became enchanted by her. georgie -- as she called herself, careless her brother would have the claim to “a better” nickname -- was an angel in face and demeanor, eager to please and to be liked by all.
when she failed to strike a permanent affection from her parents, her sister, amy, filled the role. georgiana was impressionable and needy, and amy took that opportunity. easily, georgiana became her sister’s creature: the perfect image of a lady, all silk and smiles and charms -- yet there was a string there, a string of steel, a brightness in her that made her more polished and precise. she does not mind playing the ditsy, foolish, head in the clouds lady, but those who know her, know there is more than the ingenue facade to georgie howard.
quick witted and ever polite, spoiled and arrogant, bubbly and judgmental. georgiana took a liking to doing charitable works from a very early age, and she considers that, plus the court life, to be her life calling. other things she takes enjoyment from are gossiping (overall talking. she can never stop talking i s w e ar), fashion, dogs (big dog lady tbh a la paris hilton of the time), gaming and walks.
she takes less keenly to marriage, and was quite adamant in remaining a spinster, by her brother’s side, with his aid in the future, but she bends easy for amy, and, a little under two years ago, she ended up marrying lord hamilton. they are yet to conceive, and she has no particular desire to hurry.
inspirations: sansa stark from asoiaf, tahani al jamil from the good place, caroline penvenen from poldark, lady georgiana cavendish of devonshire
rebecca ferguson — have you seen AMELIA SEYMOR, nee HOWARD, the twenty nine year old duchess of somerset. word around court is that they're realistic & headstrong but i’ve also heard them described as intense & temperamental.
the howard’s first born: amelia, or amy as the way her parents and all those “close” acquaintances called her, grew as one of the most spoiled girls someone could’ve seen. while her parents did praise and gave her attention, it was far too clear she was not what they wanted simply because of her gender. intelligent and assertive, she grew up to be one that the howards can not control — while she acts polite and is a lady in front of others, her voice sounds way too much in many situations, especially political ones.
she heavily believes that she would make a much better duchess of norfolk, ruling at her own right, rather than her brother. she absolutely despises him, how dared him to be the heir when he is the third child? just because he has a dick between his legs? bullshit!
at the birth of the twins georgiana and george, amy was around her 4 years old. she hated both of them, enough for the nurses not to allow her to “play” with the babes. took a while for them to allow her around the infants, and whenever she was around, a blanket or a toy would go missing. in her words, it wasn’t her, but we all know it was. jealous af for the sudden attention two smelly babes took her parents’ attention.
with the time, however, she learned who deserved her major hate: george. different from him, the twin girl was living much like herself, on the shadows of a heir, who got all the parents’ attention and barely cared for them. georgie, like amy so loved to call her, was the only one she could rely on. amy claims she is the one who truly raised her, did her hair, stole toys from george to her and the such. amy lived to build a suitable company to herself, and that’s how she sees her sister to this day: the polished lady she created, educated and accepting nothing but the best, all the luxury she can have.
when the youngest girls came, amy judged herself too old to bother for them too much. she had seen potential in sophia, but with her being always sick, amy decided it wouldn’t work. as for elle… she didn’t even truly try there. poor bb ellie.
at the age of 18, she married a titleness man in orders of her father. while she didn’t complain (much), her insides screamed and cursed and hated george even more — had he never been born, she would find a way to claim her title and wouldn’t have to marry to make a life of her own.
the man she married was twice her age and she despised him as well. not even a year into their marriage, the man fell sick and died — this is what amy says and what everyone concluded. truth is: she poisoned him, in a random attempt to test her new knowledges in medical plants (and their lethal doses), to kill someone else in another time. i don’t like to say she tested the poison on her husband to kill her own brother at some point but… that’s exactly what she did, oops.
back in norfolk, she played a little sad, very young and childless widow fairly well, only to claim her duty was done: she married, her husband died, so she was worthy keeping in norfolk, where she could advice her father and brother even if they did not want.
here’s a thing: a lot of the males’ doing were mostly her ideas. you know when you tell a great idea and your boss or parent is all “this is terrible” but when someone else says it, they go all “amazing, never seen before”? this is what happened with amy through her whole life. if norfolk stands as it is, it is more her doing than george’s or her dad’s.
at the age of 24, she married again to a man who was in their home as a possible suitor to her little sister, georgie. she managed to snatch the duke of somerset once she saw she wouldn’t grow much better in norfolk, wouldn’t be credited as she should. (wc in the main, so won’t blab much about their marriage and ways).
she has two children: elizabeth (4) and edward (3). she is not the greatest mom — in fact, she hates children, but she has been supposedly doing her best.
in general, amy is seen a too smart woman, curious and realistic, assertive on her thoughts, too headstrong. she acts nicely in front of everyone, but the only one she is almost completely true to, is georgie (except she never mentions how much she hates their brother and would kill him without a second thought). she is a pretty good actress tbh.
i am open to any sort of connections, so come at me!
(bella heathcote) — have you seen (MARY HOWARD), the (twenty two) year old (daughter of the duke of norfolk). word around court is that they’re they’re (friendly & polite) but i’ve also heard them described as (timid & sickly).
Hi everyone! My name’s Sophie, and I’m super excited to be here. I’ve been RPing for about 6 years, but it’s been a while since I’ve been in a historical RP, so please bear with me!
Some fun facts about me:
I live in England!
I’m a public librarian, and I love my job <3
I adore Harry Potter, Gotham and Hannibal. (Also Bates Motel, Jessica Jones, The Tudors and too many shows to name)
Now let me introduce you to my sweet summer child, Mary. If you’re interested, I renamed her partly because my name is Sophie, and her original name of Sophia was just too close to mine.I named her after Mary Mallon (Typhoid Mary) who was the first carrier of typhoid fever in America.
The third daughter of the Howard family, Mary barely survived birth. Born earlier than expected, she was afflicted with every childhood illness imaginable -- she was prone to coughing and sneezing and shivering, even in the height of summer. She was a pathetic little thing, and garnered pity from everyone who set eyes on her, for her small stature and pale complexion. Those few who knew of the circumstances of her birth whispered as loudly as they dared that she might have been better off going to God, as she would probably not live through childhood.
But live Mary did. As a child, she beheld her life with a quiet melancholy that came from months of isolation. She spent weeks at a time in her bedroom, weakened by some ailment or another, her thick curtains drawn, and her bedclothes up to her chin. She took refuse in the worlds of books, and made her way through the extensive Howard library as she grew up.
Of all the Howard children, Mary was the quietest and most reserved. She had nothing in common with her eldest sister, given that there was a seven year gap between them, and Amelia harboured a hatred in her heart which Mary didn’t like. It wasn’t reciprocated, but Mary always got the impression that her older sister simply had no time for her. Same too with George and Georgiana. In fact, of all of her siblings, Mary only felt close to Elinor, and even then, that was because she was the youngest, and Mary felt an ever so slight sense of protection for her, simply for the fact that she was the youngest.
As she moved into her early adulthood, Mary felt like an outsider within her own family. Having been relegated to her bedroom in her more formative years, she lacked the same confidence that her sisters and brother possessed, and now comes across as a timid and flighty thing, nervous and shy.
She is pretty, people say -- much prettier than she was in her youth -- but she still has a kind of gangling awkwardness that plagues her as much as her continued ill health. She is usually afflicted with some sickness or other, whether it’s as harmless as a cough in the winter months, or a fever in the warmer weather, her childhood illnesses never really left her.
Now, Mary is a quiet but thoughtful young woman. She is polite to those she meets, and carries the Howard name with as much grace as she can muster. She lives in the long shadows cast by her older siblings, and looks on in horror at the rebellious actions of her little sister. She longs, in truth, for her betrothed to sweep her off her feet and rescue her from her grey and drab existence, as princes do in the tales she grew up reading.
That’s all I can really say for the time being, but more will come when I start writing her! I’m so excited to be here. Hit me up for plots! ^_^
