SPOILER WARNING:
ok, now it’s time for my full life is strange character breakdown. I will go into depth about every character I can think of, so I hope this is helpful.
Max: Max was very sweet but she wasn’t my favorite. She didn’t have too much character in my opinion and we never really got much back story for her. She didn’t have a super memorable backstory or style or anything of that sort, but was very friendly. I didn’t like the fact she never really explained in further detail about her leaving Chloe as kids and that’s always irked my curiosity, because it was always a very simple “I didn’t want to hurt your feelings”. I wish we got more elaboration on her move, or even got to play a cutscene or something of her moving progress.
Chloe: Unpopular opinion but I LOVED Chloe, especially when we got her background story in before the storm. I don’t understand the Chloe hate in the slightest. Her being mad at Max was incredibly based given how she never got a call nor an explanation when max left immediately after her own dad died. I think the way Chloe acted throughout the game was very realistic rather than some sugar-coated version of her that was completely healed from it all. I also absolutely loved the dynamic she had with Rachel after Max, and I feel like they got along very well even if it was sometimes incredibly toxic I think they are what eachother needed.
Warren: another unpopular opinion, I loved Warren too. I do not believe at all that Warren was a “stalker” I think he just had a big crush on Max, and he was very sweet to her and people around her. I liked watching max become less shy over the game and defend not only himself, but max more. I wish we had gotten more scenes with Warren lowkey.
Kate: Kate was an absolute SWEETIE. She’s one of my favorite characters and I feel that she was a very crucial character to the game even if she wasn’t apart of it long. Her plot line was very realistic and devastating and brought more attention to things outside of the main characters in the game and I think it helped build more tension and bonding everyone around Max before the ending.
Victoria: I absolutely think Victoria was HORRIBLE in the beginning and a total bitch, but I did feel terrible towards the end when Max tried to warn her and that itself ended with her getting killed by Mr. Jefferson. The entire foreshadowing of her trying to flirt with Mr Jefferson to get a good grade too just pulled it all together and made me feel really bad for her, but I’m glad it at least ended with her and max having a heart to heart I suppose? Unsure how I feel about it
David: David was.. interesting. I didn’t like him very much beginning of the game but I also think he wasn’t AS bad as people make him out to be if that makes sense? I also think him helping save people in the dark room at the end was totally unexpected but showed a lot of character growth from him. I don’t really have much else to say about him though, he was just kinda odd. I didn’t like the whole camera situation in their house either… felt kinda odd and I feel like everyone brushed past that very quickly.
Nathan: Nathan was a HORRIBLE person, but again similarly to Victoria I did feel bad for him once he got involved in the entire Mr. Jefferson situation and left the voicemail I did feel kinda sympathetic, but then I kinda have to remember he did try and shoot (and in some universe, DID shoot) Chloe 😭
Rachel: I LOVED Rachel. I think she was also a very realistic character similarly to Chloe with the entire coping mechanisms and attitude that came along with it. I think people fail to remember that Chloe and Rachel were KIDS, and Rachel’s entire style and theatre passion was really cool to look into and explore in before the storm. I liked the first game with Chloe looking for Rachel and speaking highly of her to max, but not really elaborating much on her and us only really finding out about her character in before the storm. I just overall really loved her. Rachel didn’t even get to actually know her own mom, and I think that loss of closure really affected her seeing Mr. Jefferson and Frank at the same time, and it confuses me why everyone blames Rachel for that rather than the LEGITIMATE adults is crazzzyyy to me. The build up to finding Rachel to find out she was not only dead, but died in the most devastating CRAZY way was such a plot twist and so unexpected since our main focus was on the storm.
now my opinion on both the endings:
BAE OVER BAY (CANON ENDING): as much as I think this endings is sweet and I choose it because I feel too bad getting rid of Chloe, it doesn’t feel like what should’ve been the canon ending. It feels very fan-fic and unrealistic. I didn’t like the life is strange graphic novels that came out after the fact, and could barely get past the first book. I didn’t like the implication that Max and Chloe ran off and everything was just suddenly fine and they had new friends and everything. It felt like a fan made ending, not a canon one and didn’t feel as emotional to me.
BAY OVER BAE: my personal favorite no matter how devastating it is. Like Chloe said, fate kept trying to find anyway to kill her and “maybe she was supposed to die” which is DEVASTATING but realistic. I think the idea that max had to go back from the start and it was all almost some crazy fever dream she would have to live with is such an interesting plot line. What would’ve happened with Mr. Jefferson? Would she get with Warren? How would everyone react with the shooting? It seemed more interesting of an ending and more realistic to me idk.
